This thread is a little indulgent I'm afraid, but I am so very proud of Tina. She is a little Welsh Sec C that I got from a rescue centre in Feb of this year. She has not been handled much, if at all, and when she came to me you could just about get a headcollar on her. Not a nice experience for anyone at that time. Still, I will say we haven't progressed very far on that point as I have been trying to concentrate on getting her comfortable with being close to me. Its been slow and at times pretty disillusioning and up until a few days ago she could stand with me for about 20 secs, long enough to "suck" the food out of my hand.(Yes, she can clear your hand of food without even touching it!) And she would allow me to touch her once maybe twice for about 5-10 secs. Well this time when she took the food from my hand, her demeanour was different and the touch turned into a scratch, in fact she only moved away because my other mare thought Tina was being far too familiar with me. So once Caspar had gotten her fix of scratches and had gone off to graze, the most amazing thing happened! Tina came back for another scratch!
Needless to say I had to sit down, she really amazed me, it was such a huge leap forward for her. Anyway i'm sorry to fill this forum with 'Buffy' stories, but Tina deserves all the fame and attention she can get at the moment!
Lucy, that's such a great story, thank you for sharing it with us. Good for you - you're always so lovely to us and I reckon you deserve some fame and attention as well as Tina!
Please keep us posted with your progress as I'm sure there will be lots more to come
Catherine xx
