Hiya
I promised a while ago that I would try to organise a Company of Horses workshop in the South-East sometime next spring. So if you're still interested then please could you let me know so I can start planning it. Their website is
http://www.companyofhorses.com> if you want more information.
It would be a "first workshop", ie Understanding and Working with Equine Behaviour, which includes areas such as how horses learn and make decisions, innate and learnt behaviour, different reinforcements and the relevance of human behaviour. This workshop could also touch on basic clicker training if that's what everyone is interested in. Company of Horses workshops are progressive and you need to have completed a first workshop if you want to then go on and work at an intermediate or advanced level in different areas including Clicker Training.
Cost would be 100 pounds for two days. Dates we need to discuss but I am thinking a weekend in March or April. We need a minimum of 8 people and there will be a maximum of 12
Venue is something we need to work on but I would imagine it would be somewhere in Surrey or Sussex. We could potentially do the theory bits at my house just north of Horsham (depending on numbers and how many people are happy sitting o the floor and/or can bring a chair with them!!) and then the practical bits at my yard (20 mins drive away, just south of Guildford). If the weather's good then we could probably do the whole thing at the yard. Although this doesn't sound ideal, the advantage of this plan is that people could potentially bring their horses, although I'd need to check this with the yard owner. It would also mean no extra cost for the venue (except for possible DIY livery costs - need to check). I can also look into hiring a village hall, depending on the cost, as that would give us a bit more space.
If anyone has any better facilities - free venue with space for theory bits and at/close to horses for practical bits - then please shout.
If you're interested in more info then please could you let me know by emailing me on catherine.brocksopp@tesco.net (please don't use my normal work account as I should probably do all this stuff from home rather than at work!!)
