Company of Horses workshop in the South-East - Places still available

Hiya

I promised a while ago that I would try to organise a Company of Horses workshop in the South-East sometime next spring. So if you're still interested then please could you let me know so I can start planning it. Their website is http://www.companyofhorses.com> if you want more information.

It would be a "first workshop", ie Understanding and Working with Equine Behaviour, which includes areas such as how horses learn and make decisions, innate and learnt behaviour, different reinforcements and the relevance of human behaviour. This workshop could also touch on basic clicker training if that's what everyone is interested in. Company of Horses workshops are progressive and you need to have completed a first workshop if you want to then go on and work at an intermediate or advanced level in different areas including Clicker Training.

Cost would be 100 pounds for two days. Dates we need to discuss but I am thinking a weekend in March or April. We need a minimum of 8 people and there will be a maximum of 12

Venue is something we need to work on but I would imagine it would be somewhere in Surrey or Sussex. We could potentially do the theory bits at my house just north of Horsham (depending on numbers and how many people are happy sitting o the floor and/or can bring a chair with them!!) and then the practical bits at my yard (20 mins drive away, just south of Guildford). If the weather's good then we could probably do the whole thing at the yard. Although this doesn't sound ideal, the advantage of this plan is that people could potentially bring their horses, although I'd need to check this with the yard owner. It would also mean no extra cost for the venue (except for possible DIY livery costs - need to check). I can also look into hiring a village hall, depending on the cost, as that would give us a bit more space.

If anyone has any better facilities - free venue with space for theory bits and at/close to horses for practical bits - then please shout.

If you're interested in more info then please could you let me know by emailing me on catherine.brocksopp@tesco.net (please don't use my normal work account as I should probably do all this stuff from home rather than at work!!)

Catherine

Well done for getting the ball rolling! You already know that I'm interested and would like to confirm that I'd like a little CT included.

Will call In-laws and find out about village halls. Abinger may also be an option?

definite yes!

am definitely interested. Can't help with horsey site as my yard small and most disagree with CT but could help looking for a village hall/pub if needed.
Can't wait.
Sounds anal but would love to get dates relatively soon as I get booked up in advance for dull work conferences etc.

catherine was planning on doing exactly the same thing! But seem to have lost momentum at the moment! Still the venue I had in mind is in Lamberhurst, Kent. It has an Indoor school, individual turnout paddocks(Cough, cough!) and a room above the stables that would be ideal for the lecture bits!
Please either give me a ring or e-mail if this is any use.

Lucy.

Wahay!

That's fanatastic - so many people interested that we've gone over the maximum already! There are some people on my yard who are interested as well, plus friends who don't come on here. Think we're going to need a couple of workshops so that no-one misses out. (Lucy - if you still fancy organising one then feel free, or I can just do them both together if you'd rather. I'll email you)

I'm going to see B+E this week so will discuss dates with them. In the meantime if any of you have any dates in March or April which you can't make then please could you email me.

Thanks
Catherine

Venue

November 25 2003, 10:48 AM

Just found out that the village hall in Bramley has a meeting room which we can hire for just 30 quid a day (so roughly a fiver each, provided we don't count as "commercial" but if we do then it's only a little bit more) and it also has a toilet and small kitchen. Then we'd only be about 5 mins from the farm and very close to Guildford.

So if that sounds ok to everyone I'll book this as soon as we have the dates sorted (and I've checked with the yard owner that it's ok for us all to turn up). It would certainly be a lot easier for me to organise if it was on my doorstep (but thanks to those of you who have offered alternatives)

The pub in Bramley also does accomodation, including a flat which sleeps 5 for 140 quid per day which may be worth looking into

Well done Catherine! Bramley location is fine by me. I doubt we'd class as commerical as we won't be making money, just parting with it

Dates: none specific, but would prefer either early March or April, as I have to hand in French A level essays at the end of March, so I'll be busy getting all linguified!

Dates...

December 2 2003, 12:46 PM

Ok, spoke to Ben and we've made a plan for 13/14 March.

Slight problem in that too many people were interested! So I've suggested to Lucy and Dee that they organise something separately with the other "Heather Simpson" people and that way there are exactly 12 people left. This seemed the best way of splitting things in terms of numbers and previous experience.

So the people I now have for the 13/14 March are:

me, Diane, LouiseT, HelenW, Suz, Meera, Jackie + 2 (from my yard) and Chris, Elspeth and Julie (friends from Brighton - I'm still waiting for confirmation from them though).

I'll probably need £25 deposits off everyone reasonably soon (will email you all with address to send cheques to at some point) and will try to get the village hall booked asap.

If anyone has any problem with the dates or anything else then please let me know.

Catherine
