I am studying to be an equine behaviourist with heather Simpson at the Natural Animal Centre.I passed my exams last month and am now working on my 4 case studies. The final part of the course is a field case study.
This involves finding a horse with behavioural problems( not training problems )which would take approx 3 months work for progress to be apparent.Has to be with vet referal ( permission )and the initial consultation would neeed to be videoed. I'd be looking at starting bout the end of March ( by then will have liability insurance cover ).
I live in Stockport and would travel a distance of up to 20 miles max.
If anyone thinks of anything suitable, or wants more info please let me know.
Hi Janet
I live in Stockport as well with my retired but very with it 33 year old mare.
She has a couple of problems that may or may not be what you are looking for. You can contact me via my email and have a chat.
Fiona
Catherine I could well be the woman at the AK demo.
were you all sat behind me in a row ?
Are you part of Company of Horses then ?
And if so did anyone do any work with Mary who was sat next to me , but not with me, who discussed her mare with some of you ?
Can't really offer you any advice in finding a case study as i live across the water in Jersey.. but just want to say good luck and well done for getting through the exams! I am off next week to do module 2 which i am very excited about.. a very long way to doing the exams and case studies, but very exciting!
My friend who also passed her exams i think asked local vets if they knew of any horses.. you could try asking them??
Good luck and let us know how you get on with finding a case study!
Janet I'm Debbie from Stockport, have responded to you on another thread, even more keen to get in touch now I know you were in front of us at AK demo. There is a horse at my yard who has quite severe behavioural problems he is not mine and some of the issues are owner-perpetuated but as your job is what it is I'm sure you'll have the necessary influencing/people skills. I'd need to know more about the methods you've learned before I introduced you. The owner is concerned about the horse's behaviour and I think she would welcome some help. I don't feel qualified to do so due to time and training limitations. Most of the horse's issues seem to have come from a previous life, but because this is a very big yard where he is handled by many people using traditional methods, his behaviour is not improving. He is a really loving sweet horse (well of course, they all are) but has issues which we could discuss further off site. My e-mail is debbie.busby@hmce.gsi.gov.uk, or feel free to phone me 0161-476 0248 in strictest confidence.
Yes I was one of the people in a row behind you. I'm not part of CoH but have done various courses with them. As for Mary - I'm not sure if anyone got back in touch with her. I think it was Julie who spoke to her mostly. Jan, Rach? Do you know?
