Its early days but (touch wood) I've had really good early experiences with Boa boots.
My new horse (addition, not instead of Jake) hasn't worn shoes for two months when her previous owners were cutting costs so when I got her I wanted to carry on with barefoot management but the hacking near me is really flinty and rocky in places. So..I ordered some Boa boots. She is only 14.2 and quite cobby but not really heavyweight and needs the biggest size (a shame as was considering them for Jake too but he's loads bigger so they don't go that large). Anyway, putting the first one on was a bit of a struggle, and Gracie (I didn't name her) was a bit bemused but I soon got the knack and can now put them on and take them off really quickly. Have ridden her at all paces including through thick mud and they stayed on and didn't twist or anything.
Just thought I'd post that incase anyone else is considering them or Old Macs. I only chose Boa over Old Macs because with the latter you get lots of instructions about how to put them on and what not to do, but the Boas just said the equivalent of 'bung them on' so I figured I couldn't mess that up really.
