Hi people, just wondered if anyone could share any experiences of hoofboots during barefoot 'transitioning'. Do you need all 4 feet booted? is there anywhere you can acquire 2nd hand boots? any preferences for make/design. Any comments gratefully received!!!Thanks,Liz

I've got some boa boots (got them from ride-away catalogue). I got them rather than the old macs because the old macs seemed to involve a lot more instructions for how to put them on and I thought I'd be bound to put them on wrongly!
They are meant to last 6 months but I've been using mine quite regularly and they have shown no signs of wear yet.
They are really easy to put on and take off once you get the knack and I've not had any problems with them so far.
Most people say just the fronts as a horse carries more weight on fronts than backs.
The marquis boots look good too.

Woohoo, I loved your picture (but can't see it anymore!)

No reason why all 4 feet will need booting unless there's a problem. I got them for all 4 feet but generally only use them on the fronts, if at all. Does Richard actually think you need them or are you just being cautious? You won't necessarily need them if the feet are good

I use Old Macs, not great in mud as slippery but fine otherwise. Easy to get on and off, stay on as long as the mud isn't too deep and they're on tight enough. Twisted a bit to start due to being a bit wide, with but as Jak's feet have improved their shape they're started to fit much better

Hi Catherine,
Richard thinks Joda's feet are pretty good but we're still on the road (haha) towards being able to cope with longer rides and still a bit ouchy at times - i think that has a lot to do with current thrush problems which i am trying to tackle. I have to find a balance at the mo between the length of ride i'd like to do to increase fitness and reduce tummysize and Jodas comfort so i thought maybe hoofboots might be a useful consideration. I think Richard's going to help me measure up when he visits next. I'll try and reinstall piccy!..Lizhttp://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1112384476.JPG
