can anyone help with advice on my nearest recommended barefoot trimmer.I live near m5 cheltenham. I would like to study and learn the skill myself but my horse is very lame certainly foot related but £1000's of bucks later the vet has still not confirmed that it is or is not navicular. She is a fairly yound horse about 7/8 years old and I have had her since she was 4, she has never really worked just the odd hacking not 10 miles ever !! she has flat feet (so I am told) and has had sporadic bouts of lamenes for no reason that I know of. Although i do want to learn the skill of trimming myself, I feel i want some one experience in remedial trimming in the first instance. Hope you can help.
Yup, I'd definitely agree with Mandy about contacting Justine for a KC trimmer in your area. I don't know who covers Cheltenham but there's bound to be someone. And I'd also really agree that it sounds as though barefoot is your best bet to deal with the intermittent lameness. Then it won't really matter as such whether you have or haven't got navicular.Likewise the flat feet will become more concaved You will just return the feet to their optimum shape and, while obviously there are no promises, I'd be surprised if you continued to have the mystery lameness.
In the meantime, it would be worth reading books by KC, Jaime Jackson, Pete Ramey and www.barefoothorse.com, www.equinepodiatry.net
sorry to have to revisit this subject but the email address to help me has not responded. I have left a home and a mobile number but there has been no reply. Any others I could try? this is made worse by the fact that this is not for me or my horse and the vet is recommending very very drastic action. If you get my meaning !!!
