Thinking Allowed: Horses

The first half of Laurie Taylor's THINKING ALLOWED programme on Radio 4 this week was about research into how humans relate to horses. The discussion with one of the researchers, Dr Joanna Latimer, wasn't nearly as long or as detailed as I would have liked (naturally!), but it touched on some points which might be of interest. (P.S. Hope people aren't put off too much by Prof Taylor's slightly sniggery attitude to anything to do with animals. I've noticed this before, but have no idea why he's like that.)

Anyway, a podcast can be downloaded from the programme web page:

This looks interesting, has anyone read Dr Latimer's paper? Comments? (I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but have been put off previous Thinkings by the sniggering...)

Thank you Francis for posting this link.

I listened and actually found some of the answers quite depressing. Perhaps it would have been better longer……?

I would be interested in reading Dr Latimer's paper……do you know how an underling like me would be able to find a copy?

Thank you
Emma

According to Dr Latimer's publication list on the Cardiff University webpages, there isn't a published paper yet. Her horsey research appears to be "work in progress". Some of it was presented at a conference last year and there is an abstract - but it's not on the website (and it wouldn't go into detail anyway).

You could try contacting her directly. Address and phone number on:

( Short url: http://tinyurl.com/5meldn )

Other than that, I'm as much in the dark as you.

Francis

Can't really listen to the podcast at work, so I searched for Joanna Latimer under Pub Med. I couldn't find ANY references, not even as a second or third author!

Diane - I think that's because her papers get published in sociology journals and those don't get indexed by PubMed.
