Hi All
Haven't been on here for a while. Hope everyone and their equines (and canines) are well.
After much deliberating, I (think!) I have made the decision to find a new home for my pony, Hamish. He came to me a few years ago as a companion for my mare, Queca. Queca very sadly died at the end of October. Hamish has since been staying at a friend's yard where I'm only able to visit him at weekends. He's been very happy there until recently when there was a move around to accommodate boggy fields. To cut a long story short, he's in a section of field on his own and while coping, he could be a lot happier. As I'm not really in a position to take on another horse and bring them both home and am unlikely to be for quite some time (another long story), I feel he would be better off settled in a permanent home where he and his companion/s are owned by the same person.
Hamish is a lovely, sweet boy. He's very intelligent and so can be quite wary in situations he's not sure about but is also quick to learn. He's very fearful of being on his own, eg, if you go out to catch only him, forget it! If you go out with more than one headcollar and the intention of bringing another horse in too, Hamish will be first in the queue. If anyone tries to use that to trick him though, they'll only get away with it once! Smart pony.
Hamish is in excellent health and has fantastic sturdy little feet. In damp areas, he needs a fly rug in summer as the midges drive him nuts without one (doesn't get full-blown sweetitch though), in drier areas he's fine. He's 11h2, 14 yo, seems to be mixed native breeds, liver chestnut (I'm told - looks bay to me). He will come with a selection of rugs for all temperatures and two fly rugs. He probably could do without rugs, but gets a bit 'emotional' in the really wet windy weather and is much happier in a rug on those occasions unless he can be brought in.
I'm told Hamish hasn't really done much 'work' wise and has thrown a child or two who tried to ride him in the distant past and has been a companion pony ever since. He leads very well off of a ridden horse he's familiar with. Bless him, he is an absolute delight and deserves more than I am able to give him.
Hamish loads easily, travels well, is good having his feet trimmed, dental attention, etc. He is very affectionate and incredibly cute too.
Obviously, I want to find him a really good home where his needs are met. Hence, coming to THF to put out feelers.
I hope I've given enough information, but please don't hesistate to ask for more if you think you could offer Hamish a suitable home.
Best wishes to all
Jan
