POLL: Calling all former and current GM product users.....

(I tried posting this yesterday just when the network went down!! ) Here we go:

I'm considering purchasing the GM line in the near future. I think what did it was seeing TBear's, Snippet's, and Dulci's posts about their trip and reading from TBear and Grace about how long their supplies last.

So here are my questions:

1) Which products do you use?

2) What do you like about each of them?

3) If you stopped using GM, why did you?

I'm debating between the Creme shampoo and the Moisturizing shampoo. My favorite shampoo is Nexxus Therrape, which is a pretty thick moisturizing shampoo, but other moisturizing shampoos tend to be too heavy for my hair.

4) If you have any opinions comparing the Creme to the Moisturizing shampoos, I'd like to hear them.

5) Any other thoughts concerning GM products you'd like to share?

Many thanks in advance!!

Hi Tresses, I have the GM moisturizing shampoo...

I've found that it's O.K. It's nothing special though, I think it's a lot runnier( is that even a word, oh well) than most moisturizing shampoo's. I also have used Nexxus Therrape which I liked lots better and in fact still use an occasion. HTH

I tried to use GM for two weeks (r/o)

I had the cream shampoo for extra sensitive scalp, the 60sec conditioner and the cream rinse for extra sensitive scalp (all of them European formula which might be slightly different from the US version).

Sadly I can't say I liked any of them. The shampoo made my scalp itch, and the conditioner and cream rinse did nothing for me at all. I had massive tangles, so I had to wear my hair up all the time, and I gave up after using the products four or five times. I didn't really dare to write that in the poll below, but I think that for me they were the worst products I ever bought, LOL

I know I have very sensitive skin/scalp that only accepts the mildest cleansers, but I had less trouble with pretty much any drugstore shampoo than with the GM line. I'm back to C/O now and my hair and scalp are happy again.

Cheers,
Madeleine

GM answers (long)

I use:

Blue shampoo because my hair is very fine and oily. It cleans well but doesn't seem to strip, and leaves my roots fresher for longer.

60 sec conditioner. Very lightweight, ideal for regular conditioning of fine hair as it doesn't weigh it down. It is fragrance-free though, which I don't like, it's 'natural' smell is a bit odd.

12 min conditioner. The best home deep conditioner I have tried, along with AO GPB. Leaves my hair silky-soft and shiny, 'heavy' and thick with no flyaways or static. Also works well has a daily leave-in on outer layers and ends.

Creme rinse. Awesome! Supershiny, glass-like tangle-free hair. Has an old-fashioned, delicate, 'clean' fragrance which I love.

Instar body building spray. Great for controlling flyaways and static on loose hair, and for keeping updos, wispies and halos in place. Doesn't add much body in the traditional, bouncy-volume-and-lift sense, but adds thickness, weight and streength to lightweight flyawayhair, and is a nice dose of protein.

1 hour salon treatment. A bit like the 12 min, only much more and better. The results last for a while, even after shampooing.

I tend to use GM products for a month or two, before swapping to something else. There are several reasons.

Firstly, boredom/variety - it's so hard to stick to one product line, however good, when there is so much other exciting choice out there. I love AO and Lush too much to give them up for GM.

Secondly, cost! In Britain, GM is prohibitively expensive. The 16oz bottles of shampoo and creme rinse, the 8oz bottles of 60 sec and Instar, and the 6oz tub of 12 min, all cost UKŁ20 each. That is the equivalent of US$32 for each individual bottle. I simply cannot justify spending an entire month's budget on a set of products.

Third - convenience. I can buy Lush in my local town which I visit every day (the town that is, not Lush!), but to buy GM requires a special trip into London, which again adds to the cost (the return train fare is about US$17) and takes a day out of my busy schedule.

However, fortunately the products are very concentrated, so once I can spare the time and cash to buy the products, the bottles last me for a couple of years!

1) Which products do you use?

I used the GM Cream Shampoo, the GM Moisturizing Shampoo, the GM 60 Second Conditioner, the GM 12 minute conditioner and the GM Cream Rinse.

2) What do you like about each of them?

GM Cream Shampoo - Didn't like it. Rather drying on my hair
GM Moisturizing Shampoo - Loved it. Great, very moisturizing
GM 60 Second Conditioner - Didn't like it. Didn't moisturize or detangle well
GM 12 minute conditioner - Loved it. Very moisturizing and detangled well
GM Cream Rinse - It was okay. Detangles pretty well.

3) If you stopped using GM, why did you?

I felt that other products worked better on my hair. I prefer the Redken Colorextend products, ARTEC Textureline Smoothing products and L'oreal Colorvive products.

4) If you have any opinions comparing the Creme to the Moisturizing shampoos, I'd like to hear them.

I prefered the GM Moisturizing Shampoo to the GM Cream Shampoo because the Cream shampoo made my hair squeaky clean. I do not like shampoos that seem to strip all of my natural oils. But some people like the squeaky clean feeling. I also felt like the GM 60 second conditioner and cream rinse didn't moisturize enough to make up for the oils lost during the Cream Shampoo. If you like the Nexxus Therappe, you probably would prefer the GM Moisturizing Shampoo.

5) Any other thoughts concerning GM products you'd like to share?

You should still try the GM products. Everyone's hair is different. Some people absolutely love the GM line. It's definitely worth the investment to give it a try.

I am considering tryin the GM system again now that my hair is healthier to see if it responds better.

Hope this helps.

Love,

as a deep conditioning treatment, and I really like it. It's the only GM product I've ever tried (yet! Since I'm moving to Dallas in three weeks, I'm going to the GM salon there ASAP!!!)

I've been composing my answers in my head . . .

1) Which products do you use?

I use the cream shampoo, 60 second conditioner, cream rinse and occasionally I'll use the 12 minute conditioner.

2) What do you like about each of them?

I really like the scent. It reminds me of the old Breck products from when I was a little girl. The products also seem gentle enough for my hair/head.

3) If you stopped using GM, why did you?

I've stopped and started the GM products several times. I think, originally, I changed because I wanted a change of pace/product. Other times I've been trying to see if they are contributing to dry ends. My results are inconclusive, so I'll keep alternating.

When I've stopped the GM products, I've gone to ABBA and/or Giovanni. I keep returning to Giovanni, I think it is going to be the best s/c for me, but I like to alternate products every now and then.

I'm debating between the Creme shampoo and the Moisturizing shampoo. 4) If you have any opinions comparing the Creme to the Moisturizing shampoos, I'd like to hear them.

I haven't tried the Moisturizing shampoo, but I would like to. I'm not going to purchase any right now, since I have a full cupboard! hahahaahahaha

5) Any other thoughts concerning GM products you'd like to share?

I suspect that my hair is VERY sensative to intensive protein and/or oiling treatments. My hair seems to get crunchy quickly if I do either too frequently.

After this last treatment, I can't say that my hair is crunchy, but it seems a little drier than it was. I am beginning to realize just HOW find and fragile my hair is. I am going to be careful not to use any protein products for a while to see if my hair returns to where I thought it was before the GM treatment.

It is really strange though. Sometimes my hair feels super soft, other times it feels dry. I'm not sure if it is drier or not! How weird is THAT to not know!!!!!

I think it is important, as least for my product satisfaction, to dilute the products immediately before I use them. They work MUCH better for me if I do this, especially the cream rinse. Before I began diluting, I couldn't stand that stuff. Now that I dilute, I REALLY LIKE it!!!!

Am I extra wishy-washy tonight? I feel like it . . . but then again, maybe I'm not! hahahaahahahahaahahahahahahaaha

I love GM products...

Hi!

Let's see if I can answer your questions!

1) Which products do you use?

I use the Cream Shampoo, 12-Minute Conditioner, Cream Rinse and the Instar Body Building Spray.

2) What do you like about each of them?

--- Cream Shampoo & Cream Rinse ---
I love the silkiness of my hair after using them. I also like that I don't have to use a lot of the shampoo or cream rinse to wash my hair. For some reason, my hair feels so much softer and luxurious after using these. I also like the scent... a bit old-fashioned, I'm guessing.

--- 12-Minute Conditioner ---
I've used this as directed (12 minutes, no heat) and as a deep hour-long heated-towel treatment. Both ways work pretty much the same... my hair feels very soft, the comb glides right through, and there's less tangling. But my hair is thin to begin with and tangles no matter what. The only thing I don't like (besides the high price) is that is smells very waxy.

--- Instar Body Building Spray ---
This is magic stuff! I used to have the teased & sprayed '80s hair, and felt very strange when I stopped doing all that to my hair and left it hanging straight down and flat on my head. But when I want curls, I pincurl my hair and spray on some of this stuff, and my hair turns out amazing! I've used it as a setting lotion and a hairspray, and you don't need a lot of spray for hold if using as a hairspray. Also, it does smell a bit weird, actually a bit musty, but the smell fades when dry.

3) If you stopped using GM, why did you?

I rotate GM products with my old favorite Pantene and sometimes Artec. It also depends... if I'm leaving my hair straight, I'll opt for GM, b/c of the silkiness factor, but if I'm curling my hair (not too often anymore!) I'll use the Pantene b/c the silky factor won't matter as much. Also, if I'm going someplace special and want to pamper my hair, I'll use the 12-minute conditioner a bit longer than 12 minutes and then finish w/ the cream rinse.

4) If you have any opinions comparing the Creme to the Moisturizing shampoos, I'd like to hear them.

Sorry, I've only used the Cream Shampoo.

5) Any other thoughts concerning GM products you'd like to share?

If you're not sure which products you think you'll like, you can order the GM travel size pack that contains 4 different 2-oz bottles of products. It's on the GM Madison Ave. salon website...
http://madoralonghairheaven.com/madoraprod1.html

Scroll to see what they'll include in the travel pack. I did that to test the Instar spray and Blue Shampoo (which is also good too!)

Good luck!

I really appreciate the time you took to give me such detailed information! I think I will give the GM system a try, as soon as I can save up my pennies (I'm pretty close if I can just keep from ordering more hairtoys! ) Perhaps I'll try those travel sizes you mentioned, Carri Anne.

Thanks again, everybody!

You misunderstood me. I'm interested in trying the line as a consumer and wanted to know what people here thought about it. From what I've read so far, I think I will give it a try in the near future.

It's nice to have you visiting LHC!
