Mis-firing 900SS

by

I have a '94 Ducati 900SS. The front cylinder was mis-firing, so I got the dealer to have a look. They found a groove in the front cylinder, so I got a new bore & piston/ring plus new gaskets on both heads.

After about a thousand miles it's mis-firing again, but on the back cylinder this time. The rear plug is excessively diry - when cleaned it runs fine again.

I thought it might just be one of the HT coils and that they've been put back the other way around. So I've switched them over. But the back cylinder is still mis-firing.

I'm going to look at the compression on both cylinders (to make sure it's not oil getting in to the bore, though there's no smoke), and adjust the fuel mixture (turn it down til it stalls then put it back up by a turn and a half).

Anyone got any other ideas?

Cheers

Ian

possible broken barrel stud? Check all four nuts. If one lifts or moves, the studs bust. Jon

exhaust question ducati 900SS

by

Hi, This may be a silly question to all you long time Ducati owners out there but I recently purchased a 2001 900SS. It is a great bike and has a great low rumble sound with the Remy exhaust. I also have a Ninja 750 with a D&D that makes that signature high scream that lets people know when you are coming with the throttle wide open. My question is: Is it possible to get that same "here I come" sound from a 900SS? Or is that low, rough, car-like rumble just what a Ducati is supposed to sound like. I would appreciate any comments (so long as they are kind) about my new Duc. Thanks, Sean

exhaust "here i come" sound

by bill

I have the 750 ss and put the DP air filter set up on it when i bought my DP pipes. the open top air filter definitely offers extra performance bonus plus a more deeper "throatyer" sound.
cheap part. big bonus.

engine swaps

by Roberts

Hello Everyone

Wondering if a engine swap from a 996 to a 748 rolling chassis is possible, or is it better to just purchase a 996 complete bike instead.. Appreciate any comments anyone can give...

Looking to Get a New Ducati 999

by

I haven't been riding for like 10 years but when I did ride I was on 750 crotch rock and iteighed 600 lbs back then.

I've been looking at bikes now for a few months and the one that catches my eye is the Ducati 999.

After not riding for 10 years do you that's going overboard, or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks,

Mark

my father passed away a few years back, and left me his old bike that he stripped and never got around to fixing up again, i dont know what model it is, although i do seem to remember him telling me it has a barcelona frame (i think?)

i was hoping someone might know where to find information on old ducati's and how to determine the model / age etc

thanks
