For sale; rear Showa shock from 96 900 SS/SP

by

Hello all,

I have a used Showa shock off a 96 900 SS/SP, asking $100.

The owner put about 600 miles on the bike before he swapped it out for an Ohlins, I picked it up planning to put it on my 97 900 SS/CR but never did. It has been garage kept since it came off.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay area.

Please email me if interested.

Thanks,
David

clutch noise

by

I have recently purchased a 1997 ducati 916. This being my first, the guy I bought the bike from said the clutch was loud but I never thought it would be as loud as it is. The noise is mainly sitting still. When the clutch is engaged there is a tapping sound , when it it disengaged there is a metal whinning noise. Is this normal for a ducati?

RE:Clutch Noise

by Patrick Carney

I've owned 2 Ducati's and I've never had a clutch sound as loud as you described it before- They sometimes make some noise as I let out the clutch but never when I'm standing still... The clutch is a relatively cheap part to change on a Ducati (note the word "relatively", it can cost up to $350 bucks- but its one of the "cheaper" problems I encountered with my bikes) its probably worth having it looked at in a shop.

Thank you

Thanks for the advice, the guy I purchased the bike from hasn't been completely honest about the bike anyway. I do appreciate the info though.I am also considering xenon headlights, any oppinions on them?

Clutch noise

by idb

My 888 rattles and jingles at rest.
It is apparently quite normal and a well-known trait of dry-clutch Ducs

Clutch Noise

by Jason

The noise you are hearing is the dry clutch. It is a signature Ducati sound. It should sound like a chain clinking in tune with the exhaust. If you hold the clutch lever in, it will go away. Embrace that sound. It is part of what makes your Ducati special.

2002 748 clutch fluid needs filled often

by

Anyone had any issues with the clutch fluid needing to be re-filled on a 748 (mine is a '02)? I can't see any leaks, but I have to add fluid often. My only idea is that the slave cylinder is leaking in side the motor, but I haven't tackled that yet. Any advise or similar problem with resolution would be appreciated.

748 Clutch

by

Hey Greg,

You're guess is right. There had been a problem with surface finish on the ID of the slave cylinder bores that was causing seals to get sliced and leak. The leak is difficult to detect because it leaks internally and gets carried away by the chain as you ride. I had the same problem on a 900SS and my 916. I bought Yoydyne (larger diameter pistoned)slave cylinders and haven't had a problem since on either bike.

Hope that helped.

re- clutch fluid

by flintstone

This is a common problem with Ducati's as when it gets bad it will cause the paint to bubble next to the slave cylinder. An upgrade kit is available for a new piston & seal from 'evoluzione cyclesports' online, part number 90050, or they have a complete cylinder. They are based in the USA, but I purchased mine in the UK.

2002 748 rear brake bleeder screw leaking

by

Anyone had 748 (mine is a '02) rear brake bleeder screw leak causing air in system? I have had issues ever since I bought it new and the 1st dlr Del Amo Motor Sports in CA said that the rear brake is supposed to hardly do anything (BS). I recently replaced the bleeder screw to see if it would help, but it still leaks. I've bled it many times to get it to work, but when I remove the black rubber cap it always had some fluid in it and the pedal go down further than it used to (air in line). The only other thing that I can think of is that the bleeder screw boss in the caliper is cracked or machined incorrectly not allow the bleeder screw to proper seal. Any advise or similar issue with resolution would be appreciated.

Re: 50 state ducati?

If its anything like automobiles CA models can be operated in any state, but if it is a 49 state bike it can't be registered in CA and a couple other states.

Re: 999 ignition/immobilizer

ignition must match the keys or just call the dealer the bike was purchased from and enter the correct code via your throttle and start button.
