Lisa's expression changed from a worried frown to a smile of pure delight. After putting a stopper in the precious vial and carefully setting it aside, she took Essa by the hands and whirled her around in sheer exuberance. Neither girl paid any attention to Mrs Elliot's indulgent sigh as she shoved them both gently from her kitchen, handing Lisa the vial as she shut the door behind them. Lisa protested, saying that they needed to clean up what mess they had caused, but Mrs Elliot simply gave the door a firmer push. "Run on lassies, I will luik tae my ain kitchen."

"Essa, we did it, it looks exactly like your teacher said it would. Now pray that it will work as he said it would." She could hardly believe their good luck. "Let us find Beathan and see if he has any news of Mr O'Brien, and if we will be allowed to see him."
