2009 Memorial Cup Day 5

by

As per the routine the gang headed back to the Fan Festival and Molson tent for more photo ops and conversation with fellow fans. It was a little quieter after the game with people being back to work and school, except for us visitors. Some folks ventured out and others turned in early as the grind starts to catch up.

Day 5 was going to be a busy day as the visiting fans had been invited to a fan breakfast by the host Rimouski Oceanic Booster Club at 9:30 AM. With the late nights that some of us had been keeping this was going to be a challenge but in the end we all made it. Bubba and the Halifax boys brought out their kilts for the second time. Bubba chose to spruce his up with a tuxedo jersey as he likes to dress for the occasion and we were the guests of the Oceanic. The breakfast is a great way to meet new fans and to renew acquaintances from past Memorial Cup breakfasts. There were over 150 people in attendance including the mayor of Rimouski. After breakfast there was a ton, and I mean a ton of door prizes, as most people brought some form of souvenir item from their home town team. A great time was had by all and thanks go out to the Oceanic booster club for organizing a great function.

Costume #2 for Day 5 saw Bubba sporting a Windsor Spitfires jersey that a buddy in Calgary had loaned him along with a Russian bomber pilot helmet and very snazzy white silk scarf wrapped around his neck. He looked like he had come right out of the cockpit of an old spitfire!!! Keith and Scott had replica bomber helmets themselves and one had a Moosehead jersey and the other had a Kelowna Rockets jersey, but this was soon to change. The Spitfires fans had seen the boys dressing up for each game and after they saw Bubba with his Spitfires jersey and bomber helmet they immediately wanted to know if they got two other Spitfires jerseys would Keith and Scott wear them. Of course the answer was yes and the next thing we knew all three boys were dressed in Spitfires jerseys. They ended up sitting with the Windsor fans and were very instrumental in getting their fans cheering on the Spitfires to their first, and much needed, win in the tournament. This was phenoma that would repeat itself later in the tournament.
