When you're picking that late in the import draft, all the quality players who are committed to playing in North America are probably gone.
So, you can pick a marginal player you know will come over (and get an Edgars Ulescenko who you might have to cut because he isn't good enough) or you can pick a good player whose availability is less certain. I think that's what the Hitmen have done here with Haula - if he comes, he should be an impact player based on his Shattuck scoring numbers and his NHL draft status. If he doesn't come, oh well. Using the pick on the chance of getting him is probably better than using it to pick a guy who would only crack our 4th line every 2nd game.
