It will be interesting to see as the Hitmen are at a figurative crossroads: this team is better than we thought they'd be, but they seem to be young and inexperienced compared to some of the league's powers. To this point, they are 8-0 against the rest of the Central Division and stand a good chance of picking on the Edmontons, Lethbridges and Kootenays - that in itself can lead to a Central crown. Do they have enough in that dressing room to make a serious run at the Memorial Cup right now? It's going to be management's call, but are they happy with getting between 85-95 points and going only 2 rounds deep in the playoffs?
Any kind of trade will jeopardize future seasons, but knowing that we're seeing the last season for Kozun, Broda, Stone, and Jones, is this one last gasp before mediocracy? Any kind of serious experience and talent that the Hitmen need won't come cheap; that and there's a lot of teams that would probably rather chew their own arm off than see Calgary get what they want (i.e. like Sbisa to Calgary). So in all honesty, unless Kisio can pull off some magic, it's going to cost the Hitmen an arm-and-a-leg to load up. Should management mortgage the future? Would we fans still bleed Hitmen colours if our team is out of contention in a few seasons to pay for this one?
Food for thought - we're only fans so we can only speculate what management is thinking...any opinions?
