Gladys bangs on the cabin door, yelling at Gonzalo, “Who are you cheating on me with now?” Victoria goes into the other room as Gonzalo throws the door open. Gladys looks in the other room, but doesn’t see Victoria. Gonzalo lies and says he’s only there to find a little peace from her. He tells her he’s tired of fighting and she says that she’s tired of it, too. She asks if they can forget everything for one night. “You’re my husband and you haven’t touched me in years. Please, make love to me.”
He tells her he’ll never make love with her because he hates her and tries to leave. She begs him to stay and tells him she only wants a moment with him. She says she wants him to make her feel like a woman and opens her robe and tries to kiss him. He pushes her away roughly. In the other room, Victoria wonders if Gladys is in love with Gonzalo.
Diego tells his Aunt Flora that he won’t allow Victoria to sacrifice their love just because Carolina wants him. He says he could never want Carolina because he thinks of her as if she were his own daughter. Flora tells him that she doesn’t think Carolina wants Diego, but is sure that Carolina told Maria that she liked some other young man.
Gonzalo pushes her away form him and tells her he’ll never be intimate with her and that he only married her because his father made him. She insults him and tries to slap him. He catches her arm and warns her against trying to hit him again and she tells him to hit her because he’s the type of man who would hit a woman. He informs her that she’s not a woman. He tells her she’s dirty and that she’s a hypocrite and a witch. When he leaves, she cries and says she’s always loved him and that if she’s a witch it’s because he made her that way. Victoria overhears in the other room. Gladys says that it hurts her when he cheats on her, then curses him and Don Gregorio in the same breath. Victoria walks in and asks Gladys about her love for Gonzalo.
Gonzalo tells Miguel that he wanted to marry a poor woman a long time ago, but that she disappeared and he had to stay with Gladys. They get drunk and Gonzalo tells him how much he likes Victoria as Miguel rages at the fact that his father won’t give him his last name.
Gladys tells Victoria that she loves Gonzalo but hates him, too, because he never wanted her. Gladys asks Victoria why she hates Gonzalo. Victoria tells Gladys that she hates all alcohol. Once she’s alone, Gladys cries and wonders why Gonzalo hates her so much. She swears she’s going to hurt Gonzalo when her son and Renato finally get the Montero fortune. Miguel asks Gonzalo why he doesn’t look for his lovers far away in the city and he tells him that he prefers the women on the ranch (las campesinas). Later, Gonzalo falls asleep on the couch and Miguel falls asleep on the floor next to him.
Victoria watches Carolina sleep and, in her mind, says that even though Carolina is a Montero, she wants her to be happy. Isabela asks Alex to go to the hotel with him and he tells her that they can’t make love again. Alex tells Isabela that he’s not going to marry her. He tells her he’s not sure of his feelings for him. Angry, she throws her drink on him and storms out of the restaurant. Maria assures Diego that Carolina likes Alex Montero.
Gerardo gambles at a casino and loses a lot of money and they give him credit to play another hand. Alex interrupts and Gerardo gets angry at him. He asks for Gerardo’s help in finding Isabela. Isabela gets a hotel room and wonders what to do and cries, knowing that if she can’t get Alex to marry her, Renato will kill her. Patricio tells Florencia that he’ll always love her like a mother and she tells him not to ruin things with Alex and Isabela. He kisses her on the forehead but tells her that he can’t make any promises.
Isabela calls Patricio to come pick her up at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale and when he arrives, she tells him that Alex doesn’t want to marry her anymore. When Gladys gets home, she trades insults with Lucrecia before going to her bedroom. She finds Christa waiting for her and learns that she overheard Bianca talking to Alex on the phone and found out that Isabela’s disappeared.
Diego sneaks into Victoria’s room and wakes her up. He tells her he wants to talk to her alone and doesn’t want to wake Carolina who’s sleeping in the other bed. When she reminds him that he’s on Montero land and that they’ll kill him if they catch him there, he asks if she’s worried about him because she’s in love with him.
Diego turns his back to Victoria so she can put on a robe and tells her how much he loves her. “You fascinate me. Everything about you. Your voice, your smile that you rarely use,” he says. When he mentions her eyes, she realizes she’s not wearing her contacts and quickly puts them in. He tells her not to worry and that he’s not going to do what she thinks he’s going to do. She asks him how he could possibly know what she’s thinking and he tells her that he can read minds and that’s how he knows she thinks he’s going to take advantage of her because she loves him. He them says that he can also read hearts and informs her that her heart wants him to take advantage of her. She tells him she’s not going anywhere with him and gives two reason why: 1) “It’s very late at night, and 2) “You’re crazy.”
She lets him turn around and orders him to tell her whatever he has to say quietly so that they won’t wake Carolina. He tells her he wants to talk to her about Carolina and talks her into to going outside with him. Diego tells her that some people say that Carolina likes him and Victoria tells him that Carolina likes Alex.
Alex doesn’t regret telling Isabela that he’s not going to marry her but regrets doing it in a crowded restaurant and he and Gerardo become very worried about her because they don’t know where she is. Gerardo wonders how mentally stable Isabela is and wonders if she might try to kill herself. They decide to go to the ranch and see if she’s there. Isabela talks to Patricio about Alex. Isabela and Patricio kiss.
In Paris, Renato tells a woman named Denis about his plans to get the Montero fortune. Gladys and Christa pull Bianca into Gladys’ bedroom and asks her what happened between Alex and Isabela. Isabela ends the kiss and accidentally says, “He’s going to kill me.” (talking about Renato) and Patricio asks her who she’s talking about and she covers her slip of the tongue and Patricio thinks she’s hiding something. When she asks for his advice, he tells her to leave Alex and stay with him.
Carolina dreams about kissing Alex, then Alex’s face turns into Macario’s . She wakes up and finds her mother gone. Macario finds Amalia in his bed. Christa tells Bianca that she accidentally overheard Bianca’s conversation with Alex on the phone. Bianca tells Gladys she’s not her mother and can’t give her orders, but admits that Alex and Isabela had an argument and that Isabela has disappeared. Lucrecia finds Constanza in the kitchen and accuses Ruben of giving Constanza a black eye.
Alex and Gerardo go home and they ask Bianca where Isabela is and she tells them she doesn’t know and that Gladys and Christa know that he had an argument with Isabela at the restaurant. Constanza tries to deny it but finally tells Lucrecia that her husband Ruben was angry with their son Gerardo for gambling and took his anger out on her.
Diego tells Victoria that he’s both happy and sad that Carolina isn’t in love with him. He says he’s happy because he doesn’t see her that way and he’s old enough to be her father, but he’s sad because he thought that the reason Victoria wouldn’t marry him was because she was afraid of hurting her daughter’s feelings and now he has to figure out why she doesn’t want to marry him when he knows that she loves him. She asks him how he’s so sure that she loves him and he tells her he can tell by the way they kissed earlier in the afternoon.
Diego kisses Victoria while Lucrecia assures Constanza that she’s going to marry Diego Ibarra. Alex tells Gladys and Christa that he’s not going to marry Isabela. Isabela and Patricio arrive at the ranch and Lucrecia walks in on them kissing each other.
