Constanza begs her son Gerardo to try to take Alex’s place as Don Gregorio’s heir and tells him that if he doesn’t his father will be angry with her. Gerardo tells him he can’t because he’s nothing like Alex and she tells him that if he doesn’t do it, Ruben will be angry with her and hurt her. Ruben compliments Don G while they play golf, but Don G grows tired of it and tells him to shut up for a moment and that he needs to concentrate. Patricio assures Miguel that the Montero fortune will be his as they watch Ruben talk to Don G.
Gladys tells Isabela that she should have listened to her when she told her not to get involved with Patricio and Isabela tells her it’s not her fault. Gladys tells her that Renato won’t see it that way when she tells him about Isabela and Patricio. Isabela tells her to say whatever she wants to Renato and that her secret will come out to and everyone will finally know that Alex isn’t Gonzalo’s son. Gladys tells Isabela that she doesn’t have to tell Renato anything because he’ll probably hear it from Lucrecia.
Lucrecia tells Gonzalo that what Gladys said was true and that Alex no longer wants to marry Isabela. Gonzalo is surprised. Lucrecia informs him that Miguel, Patricio and Macario are proceeding with their plans. He tells her that he doesn’t doubt her and that the three of them could probably kill Don G if they left them alone.
Renato won’t let Victoria go and tells her that even if she screams, no one will hear her. He threatens to kill her, then she kicks him in the groin and runs. He catches her, threatens her life, kisses her, and drags her away. Gladys informs Christa and Isabela that Victoria isn’t a spy for Renato and they wonder if Victoria’s trying to get revenge on Renato for something he did to her. Renato continues to drag Victoria by her hair. When he stops, Victoria tells him if he doesn’t leave her alone, she’ll tell everyone that Alex isn’t really a Montero. Renato pulls her skirt up and tries to kiss her, but Edelmiro arrives and throws a rock that hits Renato in the head and causes him to lose consciousness. Victoria checks Renato’s pulse and discovers he’s still alive.
Don Chema worries about Victoria. Maria informs Diego that Don G drove Lucrecia crazy because he was going to make her marry a man he’d chosen for her. She says that the man left Lucrecia at the altar and she’s never been the same since her wedding day. Gonzalo wishes he was strong enough to stand up to Don G like Lucrecia and Alex.
Lucrecia remembers her wedding day when her husband Roberto discovered she wasn’t a virgin. He beats her and calls her names. When Don G arrives, Roberto accuses him of tricking him into marrying Lucrecia and making him believe she was a virgin. Scared, Lucrecia begs her father to help her, but Don G simply tells her it’s what she deserves and stands by and lets Roberto beat Lucrecia. She swears she’ll never forgive her father for what he tried to make her do and for refusing to defend her. She tells Gonzalo that Don G offered Roberto money to continue with the wedding, but Roberto refused. She tells Gonzalo that she’ll always hate her father for ruining her life.
Ruben reminds Don G that he has another grandson in Gerardo, but Don G tells him Gerardo is just like his mother and will never change. He reminds Ruben that Gerardo is addicted to gambling and is completely useless. Gerardo tells his mother Constanza that it’s not fair that his father beats her. Ruben tells Don G that Gerardo isn’t like Gonzalo. Don G promises to pay more attention to Gerardo, but that he still has hopes that Alex will change his mind and marry Isabela. Alex and Carolina kiss and worry about what Don G will do. Carolina assures Alex that they have Victoria’s support and that she would do the impossible to make sure that she and Alex will be happy.
Victoria runs into Amalia and tells her to tell Macario that Renato needs help as Edelmiro informs informs Diego and German that he saw Victoria being attacked by a man and that he hit the man with a rock. Diego leaves in search of Victoria. Macario, Amalia, one of the ranch employees and Victoria check on Renato and Victoria whispers to Renato and tells him not to say anything. Macario and one of the ranch employees carry Renato away.
Diego finds Victoria alone and asks if she’s okay, then asks if someone tried to hurt her. She says yes and he tells her that it was Edelmiro who saved her. He tells her that since Edelmiro works for him, he’ll charge her for his services. He tells her that the price for saving her life is a kiss. They kiss. Diego tells her that he won’t insist that she tell him her secret, but wishes she would so that he could protect her. She tells him that she wishes he could protect her from herself and he asks if the person who attacked her was Gonzalo Montero.
“No, it was someone more dangerous than Gonzalo Montero.”
Gonzalo tells Lucrecia that he’s going to support Alex and that since Alex won’t inherit everything, he (Gonzalo) will and promises her that he’ll share the fortune with her. He then asks her why Alex won’t marry Isabela and she tells him that she caught Isabela kissing Patricio. Miguel and Patricio arrive at Patricio’s home and Martin (his father) asks Patricio if he’s told Miguel about his plans to seduce Isabela.
Isabela tends to the knot on Renato’s head as Renato tells them that he must have been attacked by one of Victoria‘s accomplices. He tells them (Gladys, Christa, and Isabela) they have to find out who she is and who her accomplices are. Isabela vows to get rid of Victoria and Carolina. Rocio tells Macario that Don G threatened to disinherit Alex and reveals that Alex is in love with Carolina. Macario is not pleased with that information. He tells her it’s impossible and becomes very angry. When he walks away, Rocio wonders if he’s interest with Carolina. Alone, Macario vows to make Carolina his wife.
Alex tells Carolina to stop worrying about all their problems and stop thinking about how angry his family will be and simply enjoy their time together. He says, “Whatever happens, we’ll always be together. I swear, my love” She tells him that he’s her first boyfriend and he says he wants to be her last. She promises he will be her one and only and that she’s never felt for any other man the way she feels for him. He tells her he’s felt the same way ever since he first saw her and that she’s the love of his life. They kiss. Still angry, Macario asks Amalia where Carolina is and Amalia says that she’s probably with Alex and that they are in love. He tells her to find Carolina and tell her he wants to talk to her and Amalia asks him why he’s so interested in Alex and Carolina. He tells her he doesn’t want people to gossip about Alex and Carolina.
Renato gets a bandage put on the side of his head and continues to plot and scheme with Gladys, Isabela, Christa. Renato asks them how Victoria knows that Alex isn’t Gonzalo’s son but none of them can answer him. He says that there must be someone close to them who has betrayed him.
Diego asks Victoria, “Are you really all right?”
“Yes, thank you. Don’t worry about me.”
“How can I not worry you? I love you.”
“Okay, you love me, but I don’t--”
“No, don’t say anything. You’re not going to tell me lies. It’s best if you tell the truth. Tell me that there’s something keeping you from expressing your true feelings.”
She tells him that he knows it’s true and says that he also knows that she can’t tell him what it is.
“Why not?”
“Because it’s none of your business. Furthermore, when I finish what I have to do on the Montero ranch, you‘re going to look down on me.”
Rocio takes Don Chema food and asks him about Victoria and tells him she wants to help her. Don Chema tells Rocio that Victoria has a secret. He tells her that Victoria is going to cry lagrimas de sangre (tears of blood) before she’s completed her quest for revenge.
“Forget me, Diego. It’s a waste of time to worry about a person like me, someone who only has rancor in her heart.”
“That’s not true, Victoria. You have so much inside of you, so much inside of your heart.”
“I have to go.”
“No, I can’t let you leave before you tell me who tried to hurt you.”
“Honestly, I don’t know who he is. I can only tell you that he’s a very dangerous person that I have to be careful with, but he’s a part of my secret, too.”
“Okay, okay. But please promise me that one day you’ll tell me what your secret is.”
“Okay, I’ll tell you one day, but it’ll still be too late for us. That’s why I tell you that you have to forget me now because I’m never going to be able to give you the attention you deserve, no matter how much I love you.”
“Thank you, God!” Diego tells Victoria, “You’ve finally admitted that you love me.” They hug.
Renato thinks that Victoria has the same motives as they have and that she wants Carolina to marry Alex for his money just like they want Isabela to marry him for his money. Don G tells Ruben he’ll wait and see if Gerardo changes his ways and wants to give Alex another chance, but Ruben tells him that he doesn’t think Alex will change his mind. Don G vows that Alex will marry Isabela and tells Ruben of his plans to break up Alex and Carolina.
Alex thinks Don G will kick him off the ranch, but tells Carolina not to worry because he’ll ask his aunt Florencia and uncle Martin to help him out. Isabela tells Renato and Gladys that Alex has returned with Carolina. Amalia tells Carolina that when she told Macario that she and Alex were in love, Macario became really angry and she wonders if Macario is so dedicated to Don G that it bothered him that Alex was with Carolina and not Isabela. She assures Carolina that she’ll talk to Don G and ask him not to throw her off the ranch.
Alex informs Gonzalo and Lucrecia that he’s not going to marry Isabela and that he doesn’t care that Don G disinherited him. He tells Gonzalo that he loves Carolina and assures Lucrecia that Carolina loves him and not Diego. Lucrecia tells Alex that she loves Diego. Alex pledges his support to Lucrecia and she pledges hers to him and they hug. Gonzalo gives Alex his support. Martina tells Alex that Don G wants to talk to him. Gonzalo finds it amusing that he likes Victoria and his son likes Victoria’s daughter.
Carolina tells Victoria that Don G will disinherit Alex and that she’s worried. Rocio runs in and says that Don G wants to talk to Carolina. Alex finds Isabela waiting for him instead of Don G. She tries to seduce him and kisses him. Carolina walks in on them kissing.
