Diego angrily confronts Lucrecia and orders her out of his house. Lucrecia cries and accuses him of not caring for her and only thinking about the woman he loves, saying that all she did she did for love and all he can think about is the woman he loves. He accuses her of acting childish and she tells him not to treat her like a child. He tells her to comport herself like a woman if she wants to be treated like one. Gladys confronts Isabela for the kiss she saw her give Patricio. Isabela begs her not to tell Renato and Gladys tells her she’s left with no choice and has to tell him. Gonzalo and Miguel have a drink and Gonzalo announces his plans to divorce Gladys as Gladys and Isabela continue to argue. Isabela turns the tables on Gladys and asks her what kind of mother she is to sacrifice her son and try to make him marry a woman like her (Isabela).
Victoria expresses her uncertainty about Alex’s feelings for Carolina because he changed his mind about marrying Isabela so easy and might do the same thing to Carolina. Alex apologizes to Victoria and tells her that he understands that she’s afraid for Carolina and assures her that his feelings for Carolina are true and that they won’t change. Lucrecia cries and begs Diego not to throw her out, but Diego refuses to listen to her, telling her that he doesn’t love her. Maria walks in as Lucrecia tells Diego that she loves him and knows that one day he’ll come to love her. She tells Maria to leave them alone to talk and Diego says, “Now, you’ve decided you have the right give orders in my house, huh? Maria, stay!”
Lucrecia asks, “Why does Maria have to hear what we’re talking about? Why does she have to witness you humiliating me?” Diego doesn’t care if she’s humiliated and Lucrecia drops to her knees, begging him not to get rid of her as Maria continues to work and watch in the background. “I’m begging you on bended knee, Diego. Please let me live here.” Diego is speechless. As Gerardo and Ruben watch, Don G accepts a phone call from Patricio and tells him to meet him at the ranch in a half hour. When Ruben asks what’s going on, Don G tells him it’s none of his business, tells them to finish their work, and leaves. Alone together, Ruben smacks Gerardo on the side of the head and warns him that Don G might make Patricio his heir.
Florencia worries about Lucrecia because she’s certain that Diego’s angry enough to throw Lucrecia out. The conversation turns to Diego’s past and she reminds Martin that people say that Diego’s a murderer. Martin tells her that Diego was absolved of the murder as Alex when Carolina asks him to leave her alone to speak to her mother. Carolina tells Victoria that she trusts Alex and tells her she wants to know about her past and what the Monteros have to do with it. Gladys and Isabela continue to argue. Gladys tells Isabela that she’s not a bad mother and that the only reason why she wants her to marry Alex is because Renato is forcing her and Isabela reminds her that she’s being forced into it, too. Gladys slaps Isabela when she insults her and Gonzalo walks in on the slap.
Diego tells Lucrecia that he doesn’t hate her and doesn’t know her well enough to hate her as Flora, German, and Maria watch in the background. Diego tells her that she knows what he’s capable of and reminds her of the day she showed up in his bedroom naked. He tells her that it’s best she moves in with her sister. She turns to Flora and German and begs them to help her. German takes Diego outside so that he can take a moment to calm down. Lucrecia tries to go after him, but Flora stops her, telling her to calm down. Lucrecia asks Flora why no one understands that she did all the things she did because she loves him. She tells Flora that she doesn’t want to leave and Flora tells her that she has to go whether she wants to or no. She advises her to have dignity and stop doing ridiculous things for a man that doesn’t love her. She tells Lucrecia that she’s not going to let her blackmail Diego with all her tears and problems.
Gonzalo calls Gladys a serpent. Isabela asks him what he heard. He tells her that he heard her yell and saw Gladys hit her. He tells Isabela to go have a drink with him because he thinks that a “drunk like me” is better company than Gladys. They leave. Gladys calls him stupid and asks herself why she loves him so much when all he feels for her is hatred. Diego tells German that he doesn’t know what he’s going to do because if he throws her out, Lucrecia is capable of anything. German tells him that he doesn’t need Lucrecia doing something crazy and then the whole world blaming him (Diego) for it. Diego gets an idea as Flora tells Lucrecia that she can’t do anything for her. Lucrecia continues to whine and tells Flora how much she loves Diego and begs her to help her stay. Diego arrives and tells Lucrecia that he thought about it and he’s not going to throw her off the ranch. Flora asks Diego if he’s sure and reminds him that Lucrecia has people in her family who would help her. Lucrecia tries to get her to shut up, saying, “You told me yourself that Diego’s the one that gives the orders here and eh just told you that I can stay with him.”
Diego tells her not to misinterpret him and announces that she can stay there and recuperate but he’s the one leaving the ranch. He walks out and Lucrecia runs after him. Patricio meets with Don G and learns that Don G wants to cancel their plan to kill Carolina and blame Diego for it. He tells Patricio that he still wants to kill someone and make Diego look like the killer, but has decided the person they kill won’t be Carolina and they must look for another victim. Patricio thinks to himself, “You’re going to be the victim, Grandfather. We’re going to kill you.”
Carolina tells her mother that she needs to know about her past and doesn’t care if she did something bad or not and promises not to judge her. Victoria tells her that she didn’t do anything bad and tells her that she’ll tell her about her past. She says that Carolina can learn from her experience so that she can be cautious with Alex. Alex comforts his mother as she cries because she thinks Gonzalo detests her. Alex tells her that Gonzalo doesn’t detest her and that he’s unhappy at her side. She tells him that she always tried to be a good wife but that he never touched her, then stops herself, telling him she’s sorry and didn’t mean to talk to him about something so intimate. Alex tells her not to apologize and that he knows that she and Gonzalo don’t love each other. Gladys tells him that she did love him and was always looking for a way to fix their situation. He tells her not to try to revive something that’s been dead for so long and advises her to try to reclaim her life. She asks him what he means as Carolina asks Victoria why she has to be cautious with Alex and Victoria tells her that she can’t trust any of the Monteros--Gladys, either, because even though she doesn’t have the Montero blood in her veins, she’s just like the other Monteros.
Gladys asks what Alex meant as Alex realizes that Gonzalo still hasn’t talked to Gladys about getting a divorce. Alex tells her that she should look for a man who will really love her and she’s shocked and asks if he’s telling her that he doesn’t care if she and Gonzalo get a divorce. He tells her that a divorce won’t affect him and she refuses, telling him that she’ll never divorce his father. She asks if Gonzalo told him that he wanted a divorce and if he’s in love with another woman as Gonzalo talks to Isabela about Gladys. Gonzalo tells Isabela to leave and forget about Alex and find someone else. Isabela refuses, telling him that she loves Alex and won’t let Carolina steal him from her. Victoria tells Carolina that Gonzalo made her have sex with him in exchange for saving grandmother’s life, but tells her that her grandmother died anyway. Carolina is shocked and cries as Gonzalo and Isabela argue about Alex. Alex tells his mother that if she wants to know if Gonzalo has another woman, she should ask him and Gladys comes to the realization that Gonzalo has another woman who means more to him than all the other women he cheated on her with.
Victoria tells Carolina that the Monteros did other things to her, too, and tells her that she can’t marry Diego until she gets her revenge against the Monteros. Diego packs his bags as Lucrecia tries to stop him from leaving. He tells her that they can’t live under the same roof and that if she doesn’t leave, he’s leaving because he doesn’t want any more problems from her. Desperate, Lucrecia tells him that he’s only leaving because he doesn’t want to protect her and wants to leave her alone so that her father can come back and hurt her. Diego tells her that his employees will protect her if Don G comes there for her. He tells her bye and walks towards the door. She begs him not to go and he tells her that she isn’t leaving him with any other choice, telling her that he can’t stay there alone with her. She asks him if he’s leaving because the woman he loves will be angry if he stays there with her and he tells her that that’s not the only reason and that he doesn’t want to stay there alone with him because he’s the one that would be bothered by it. “You love this other woman that much?” she asks him. He tells her, “Con todo mi alma.” Lucreica looks hurt.
Carolina knows why she hates Gonzalo but asks why Victoria hates the other Monteros, too. Victoria tells Carolina that as a result of what he did to her, she was left pregnant. Carolina is horrified to think that she and Alex are brother and sister. Alex tries to calm his mother as she begs him to tell her if Gonzalo told him that he wants to divorce her. Gladys insults Gonzalo and tells Alex that she won’t permit Gonzalo to divorce her and especially not for Victoria. Alex asks why she thinks it’s Victoria and Gladys insults Victoria, telling Alex that the whole world knows what’s going on between her and Gonzalo. Carolina asks Victoria if she’s a Montero. Outraged, she asks how Victoria could let her and Alex have a romantic relationship together if she knows they’re related.
Victoria tells her the truth, that she isn’t Gonzalo’s daughter and that the baby she was pregnant with died. Victoria calms her and continues to assure her that she’s not related to Alex and asks how she could think her capable of letting her have a romantic relationship with Alex if she knew they were brother and sister. Carolina calms down and apologizes. Then, she asks Victoria who her father is. Constanza goes to visit Florencia at work, telling her that Ruben gave her permission to visit her. Florencia tells Constanza about what Lucrecia did. Diego tells Lucrecia that she’s safe at the ranch and gets up again to leave. She begs him not to leave. He tells her that if she doesn’t want him to leave, then she’s the one who’ll have to leave. He suggests she moves in with her sister Florencia.
Lucrecia tells him that she doesn’t care about Florencia and that she’s not going anywhere. Florencia and Constanza think that Lucreica will reveal their secret as Ruben continues to plot and pressure Gerardo. Don G tells Patricio that he doesn’t want anyone to hurt Carolina but still wants to set Diego up for murder. He tells him that he’ll make Lucrecia pay for what she’s done, but has to be careful because she’s capable of doing anything. Diego tells Lucrecia that Florencia is worried about her, but Lucrecia’s attitude towards her sister hardens as she tells Diego that she, Florencia, and Constanza made the same mistake a long time ago, but Florencia’s the only one who didn’t suffer from it and expresses her jealousy that Florencia’s life isso much happier than her own. Diego asks her if she really wants him or if she just wants a normal, happy family like Florencia has.
Victoria tells Carolina that Gladys made her lose her baby as Gladys cries to Alex about Gonzalo. Alex tells her that he wants to see both her and his father happy and leaves her alone. She calls herself an idiot for sacrificing her whole life for Gonzalo because she loved him. She tells herself that she’ll always love him. She wipes her tears away and says, “It’s finished. It’s time that I enjoyed life and Gonzalo will never divorce me because Don Gregorio will never allow it. I‘m not going to give that jerk his freedom!” Carolina is shocked at Gladys’ cruelty and asks how her grandmother died. Victoria tells Carolina that Don G burned her grandmother alive. Carolina cries and says, “My God! And I’m in love with a Montero!”
Alex finds his father and Isabela and Isabela tries to seduce Alex again, calling him her love. He tells her that he’s not her love and she walks away. Alex tells his father that he made a big mistake and that he spoke with Gladys and she became angry. Gonzlao is unconcerned and tells him that it’s time he spoke to Gladys about the divorce and takes another drink as Carolina says, “And to think that I’m in love with a Montero. The love of my life belongs to such a horrible family.” Victoria tells her that she’s sorry, but reminds her that she insisted on hearing the truth. Carolina tells her that Alex can’t possibly be like all the others and that she’s sure he’s a good person. Victoria tells her that they don’t know that for sure and asks her to help her get her revenge against the Monteros by using Alex.
