Episode Twenty-Six

Victoria tells Carolina that she wants her help to use Alex in order to get her revenge against the Monteros, but Carolina tells her that she can’t because she doesn’t want to hurt him. Victoria tells her that nothing will happen to Alex if he really loves her. Florencia and Constanza don’t want Lucrecia to reveal their secret and decide that the only way to ensure that is to get her out of Diego’s house. Constanza tells her sister that Ruben will take whatever reason he can find to beat her and will surely do so if he found out their secret. They wonder what happened to Luisa and the baby as Patricio asks Don G why he changed his mind about killing Carolina. Don G gets a picture of his late wife, Teresa (whose picture looks remarkably like Carolina) and tells Patricio that Carolina reminds him of his wife.

Christa gives Renato a foot rub when Gladys shows up. She tells Christa to leave so that she can talk to him alone. Renato tells Christa to leave and when she does, Gladys jumps on top of him, telling him to make love to her, make her feel like a woman. Don G tells Macario that he needs him to go to the Ibarra ranch and talk to Lucrecia for him and asks Macario if he’s afraid. Macario assures him that he’s never afraid and Don G tells him that he wants him to tell Lucrecia that she knows what he’s capable of and if she doesn’t drop the charges against him, he’ll make sure that Diego has an accident.

Diego tells Lucrecia that she’s not really in love with him and that she just wants a normal life with a family and someone to love her. He tells her that she’s only using him because she wants to make her father angry, but she tells him that it’s not true and she loves. He tells her he doesn’t love her and advises her to let him know when she’s going to leave the ranch so that he can return home and grabs his bags. As he is about to leave, Flora arrives and he tells her goodbye. When he leaves, Lucrecia throws a mini-tantrum and tosses a few pillows around, asking herself why Diego doesn’t want her as Flora watches and rolls her eyes.

Edelmiro delivers a letter to German for Diego and asks him if he needs him to go to the Montero ranch for anything. German sees right through him and laughs, telling him that he only wants to go to the Montero ranch because he wants to see Rocio. Edelmiro tells him that he heard that he likes Amalia as Macario asks Amalia to go to Los Encinos for him. Amalia asks why he can’t go himself and he tells her that if he goes over there, they’ll kill him and that it’s best that she go because it’s not dangerous for her. Amalia says that she’ll go, but not alone and Macario tells her to get Carolina to go with her. Amalia asks him if it’s just a trap to get Lucrecia to come back so that Don G can beat her some more and Macario tells her it’s not but that what Don G has planned could be something worse than that.

Carolina tells Victoria that her relationship with Alex is based on honesty and trust and she has to tell him what happened. She says she can’t keep something like that from him and she can’t help Victoria use him to get her revenge against the Monteros. Victoria tells Carolina that she’s not sure of Alex and can’t be certain that he isn’t just like his father, Gonzalo. Alex tells Gonzalo that he didn’t tell Gladys that he wanted to divorce her because Gonzalo should be the one to tell her what he plans to do. Alex tells him that he wants both of them to be happy and that he told his mother to find someone else who will love her the way she deserves to be loved and Gonzalo doubts that such a man exists and calls Gladys a witch.

Gladys tells Renato that Gonzalo wants to divorce her for Victoria. Victoria tells Carolina that she can’t tell Alex her secret because it would complicate things more. Carolina tells her that if she keeps it from him, it’ll be just like lying to him. Gladys tells Renato that Victoria isn’t interested in Gonzalo, but Renato thinks otherwise until Gladys reveals that Victoria has Diego Ibarra as a lover. She tells him that she saw them in bed together. Diego doesn’t leave the ranch, but moves into another part, telling German that he hopes Lucrecia will leave him alone. He tells German that he has to find a way to make Lucrecia leave and move in with her sister Florencia.

Florencia tells Constanza that their secret could destroy her marriage because she’s never lied to Martin about anything else and Constanza is sure that if the secret was ever revealed, her life wouldn’t change at all because Ruben would simply beat her like he always does. Florencia tells her that if their secret is revealed, her life would be changed forever and begs Constanza to help her do something about Lucrecia. Constanza tells her that no one is going to be able to make Lucrecia change her mind about leaving Diego’s house as Amalia asks Macario if Don G is setting Lucrecia up for something, but Macario tells her that Lucrecia doesn’t have to return home and Amalia asks what message to give Lucrecia. He tells Amalia to tell her that if she doesn’t drop the charges against him, Don G will kill Diego Ibarra. Amalia is shocked and tells Macario that Don G is capable of killing someone. He asks her how she’s so sure of that and pressures her about the secret she knows about Don Gregorio. She tells him that she doesn’t know anything but Macario doesn’t believe her. Amalia refuses to admit it and leaves to find Carolina. Macario says, “One day, Amalia is going to tell me what she’s hiding and one day it’ll be a powerful weapon against Don Gregorio.”

Victoria makes Carolina feel guilty by telling her to go ahead and betray her by telling Alex who she is and why she’s there. Carolina tells her that she loves her and that it hurts knowing what the Monteros did to her and finally promises to help her, telling her she won’t say anything to Alex. Victoria promises her that her happiness is important to her and that if Alex proves himself to be a good person and if their relationship is ever in danger because of her secret, she’ll tell Alex the truth herself and mend their relationship because her happiness with Alex is more important to her than her revenge.

Renato tells Gladys that Victoria is very attractive. He tells her that she is attractive, too, but she’s also damaged goods. Gladys cries and complains about Gonzalo and how he never touches her and how every time he sees her, he insults her. She tells him that she’s human and needs to feel loved and wanted and deserves to be treated like a woman. Renato tells her that he likes to see her like this and that she reminds him of the Gladys he knew back during her honeymoon when Gonzalo was too drunk to touch her. He tells her he’s going to make love to her and pulls of her shirt. They kiss as Christa listens outside and cries, thinking to herself, “Renato doesn’t understand that I truly love him….”

Amalia finds Carolina crying. She’s upset that someone made her friend cry, demanding that Carolina tell her who upset her. “Was it Isabela?” Carolina tells her that they were tears of happiness and Amalia tells her that if someone messes with her, she should come and tell her. Carolina agrees to go with Amalia to Los Encinos and asks why they have to go there. Diego meets Martin for drinks and tells him that he’s moved into his office so that he doesn’t have to stay under the same roof as Lucrecia. Martin asks how he can help Diego with his problem concerning the woman he loves. Diego asks Martin if he knows about anything that happened at the Montero ranch a long time ago and tells him he needs to know because it‘s important if he‘s ever going to get her to marry him.

Don Gregorio looks for Carolina, but finds Victoria instead, telling her that he needs to talk with Carolina. Amalia and Carolina go to Los Encinos as Victoria tells Don G that Carolina’s not home. Victoria asks why he needs to speak with Carolina and he asks if she thinks he’s going to hurt Carolina for breaking up Isabela and Alex. He tells her that he’s not going to do anything to her “right now”. “Right now?” she asks him. He tells her that he just wants to get to know her better. She asks him how she would know that it wasn’t just another one of his traps and he asks if she thinks he’s capable of doing such a thing. She apologizes and he tells her to tell Carolina that he wants to speak with her when she comes back. Before he leaves, she asks why he insists on speaking with Carolina and he tells her that she reminds her of his late wife--so much so that she could be Teresa’s own daughter.

Don G tells her that Carolina has a sweetness about her just as Teresa did and Victoria tells him that Carolina isn’t the type of person who will let someone make fun of her and play with her feelings. Don G laughs and tells her that people like her are always ready to think the worst of people with money. He asks her how he’s supposed to believe that she and Carolina aren’t after his money. She tells him that they know that Alex has been disinherited and it doesn’t matter to them; she then tells him that Carolina really does love his grandson and doesn’t need his money.

On Los Encinos, Carolina makes Amalia tell her about the message they’re taking to Lucreica. Carolina is shocked to learn of the threat on Diego’s life as Martin tells Diego how he came to be married to Florencia. Diego tells Martin that they need to find someone form the Montero ranch who’s been there long enough to remember Victoria and find out what she’s hiding. He tells him that Maria used to work for the Monteros, but won’t tell him anything because she’s loyal to Victoria. He’s sure that the Monteros have something to do with the secret Victoria’s hiding from him.

Carolina and Amalia arrive at the main house on Los Encinos. They don’t find Maria in the kitchen and Carolina tells Amalia that Maria would have helped them. Amalia suggests that they go ahead alone and sneak into the living room. Flora arrives looking for Maria, but before she sees them, Carolina tells Amalia to go and find Lucrecia on her own and tells her that she’ll stay with Flora because they know each other. Amalia hides before Flora sees her. Flora asks Carolina what she’s doing there and Carolina tells her that she was looking for Maria and couldn’t find her in the kitchen so she came to look for her in the living room. She apologizes, but Flora tells her she has nothing to be sorry about and tells her that she wanted to speak with her. She offers her something to drink and Carolina goes to the kitchen with her. Amalia comes out of hiding and goes to look for the room Lucrecia is staying in.

In the kitchen, Flora asks Carolina what she thinks about what’s going on between Diego and Victoria. Carolina tells her that she likes Diego a lot and wants him for Victoria, but adds that there’s something very important that Victoria has to do before that can happen. Don G asks Victoria why she’s working at his ranch if she doesn’t need money and she tells him that she has to have money in order to survive but isn’t trying to get her hands on his fortune. He tells her that everyone wants more money than they have and that most women are more concerned about money than they are about the man they’re marrying and she tells him that perhaps Isabela is like that, but Carolina isn’t.

Naked in Renato’s bed, Gladys tells him not to forget that she’s a decent and married woman and Renato laughs at her declaration, telling her that she doesn’t have to talk like that to him and reminds her that he’s the one who slept with her during her honey moon and got her pregnant. Renato tells Gladys that he’d like to continue their little affair and she tells him that she’s still married and won’t be able to get away to be with him so easily again. She tells him to get what he needs from Christa. He tells her that Christa does what she can but that he needs her, as well as Christa. Christa waits for Renato in the living room and gives him a drink and brings him an ottoman so that he can prop his feet up. She asks him if he enjoyed himself and he tells her that he did and that Gladys is a beautiful, magnificent woman. Bothered, Christa tells him that she’s sure that Gladys isn’t as skilled as she is, but he suggests she studies Gladys and learn a few things from her. He tells her that Gladys wore him out and tells her to give him a massage. Massaging his shoulders, she cries.

Victoria continues to assure Don G that Carolina really loves Alex and he tells her they’ll have to wait and see how long that love lasts. Then, he asks her why she looks at him the way that she does, with so much hatred. He tells her that he never did anything to her, “Or did I?” She tells him that she just has a hard gaze and he tells her that he’ll believe her for now, but if he discovers that Carolina just wants his money, he’s going to change his opinion of her. He leaves and Victoria closes the door behind him. She seethes as she thinks about her plan to make Don G think that his grandson is in love with his half-sister, even though it isn’t true. She says, “Very soon, Don Gregorio will find out that I am Luisa Dominguez.”
