Episode Forty-four/Episode Forty-five

Florencia tells Victoria that a child always belongs with its real mother and thinks that Luisa might have killed her in order to get her revenge on what her family did to hers. Victoria assures her that she thinks her daughter is safe and happy wherever she is. Florencia still intends to search for her daughter and vows to kill Luisa with her bare hands. Bianca tells her mother what happened at the club and about Claudio. She says that they’ve decided to be friends when Gladys walks in and accuses them of sitting around chatting and not caring about Don G’s welfare.

Lucrecia and Gonzalo learn that their father still lives and are disappointed and wonder if Macario, Miguel and Patricio had something to do with the heart attack. Renato and Christa learn that Don G is still alive; Renato’s angry. Isabela tells Gladys that she hopes Don G dies soon. Amalia talks to Carolina about her worries about Macario and knows that something bad must have happened the night before. Miguel reminds Macario that he‘s the one who pulled the trigger and if the police come, they‘ll have to tell them the truth. Macario threatens him with a knife and tells him that if the police come, the three of them will lie to them. Patricio arrives and tells Macario that he’ll never forgive him for killing his father.

Carolina asks Amalia if Macario hurt her and she says that he “made love to her like a savage animal” and she didn‘t like it, but he hugged her afterwards. Amalia decides to see Don Chema and see what really happened the night before. Diego comforts Florencia and Victoria goes to the kitchen to talk to Maria. Diego offers to help Florencia find her daughter. She thanks him and tells him that Lucrecia doesn’t deserve him. Constanza suggests Gonzalo and Lucrecia go and see Don G at the hospital and Gonzalo decides to go. When he leaves, Lucrecia sees Gladys and Isabela in the hallway and can’t believe Isabela lacks the dignity to leave a place where she isn’t wanted. Constanza can’t believe that she’s accusing someone else of lacking dignity. Diego and Florencia are talking when Edelmiro arrives and announces to all that Don G had a heart attack. Victoria worries about Carolina and what Florencia might do to take her away from her. Bianca goes to see Don Chema, but he tells her that he can’t read the cards today. Macario spreads the blame for Martin’s death to Patricio and Miguel and when Patricio lunges at him, Miguel has to separate them. Don G tells Ramon to send for his lawyer because he wants to make people think that he’s changed his will, when in reality, it’ll stay the same. Ruben tries to get a nurse to let him into Don G’s room to talk to him.

Gerardo is happy to be free of the pact he made with Ruben. He tells Alex to go home and change and he’ll stay with Don G. Before he leaves, Alex warns him about Ruben. Gladys suggests she, Isabela, Lucrecia, and Constanza go to church to pray for Don G’s health. Isabela insists, as well, and Lucrecia calls her a hypocrite. Florencia worries about Don G and her daughter. Lucrecia decides that since Don G is in the hospital she can go and see Diego whenever she wants because Don G can’t hurt him. Victoria is scared about losing Carolina.

Alex arrives at the ranch and sees Carolina and Amalia. He gives them the latest news on Don G and Amalia wants to speak with Don G immediately so that she can see what he wants to do about their secret. Alex and Carolina want to know what secret she’s talking about. Amalia won’t say and Alex leaves. Gerardo and Ruben see Don G. Don G wants to see what kind of vipers he has in his family and decides to see each of them privately and individually. He tells Ruben that he wants to talk to members of his family, as well as Carolina, Macario, and Amalia. He says he wants to see Carolina and Amalia as soon as possible because he has something really important that they have to hear. He tells Ruben that he is in debt to Amalia. Ruben is surprised to hear this.

Amalia tells Carolina that her secret is a horrible one and that she can’t tell anyone because she promised Don G. Diego finds Victoria in the kitchen and they go outside for a walk. They kiss and Diego tries to get Victoria to let him help her with her revenge, but she won’t. He tells her he wants to marry her as soon as possible. She refuses and tells him that if he grows tired of waiting, she’ll understand. She tells him that she wants to make love to him and he rejects her, telling her that he won’t touch her until they’re married. He also says that if she won’t marry him, he’ll never kiss her again, even if it kills him. He asks her to marry him again and she says she needs to think about it.

Diego tells German about Don G’s heart attack and asks if he’d like to go with him to the police department to see if they have any news on what happened to Martin. Miguel keeps Patricio and Macario from fighting. Macario tells Patricio that Martin had to be killed because it was necessary. He says it doesn’t matter who gets in their way; they must be taken care of. Miguel asks if everyone got rid of their bloody shirts. Patricio got rid of his and Macario says he’s going to burn his, but admits that Amalia saw it. Patricio is enraged and tells Macario that they have to kill Amalia, the same way he killed Martin. Macario doesn’t want Amalia hurt, but Patricio insists.

Carolina tells Amalia about her mother’s secrets and makes her promise not to tell anyone. Florencia goes to the Montero ranch and finds Isabela, Gladys, Lucrecia, and Constanza in the living room together. She is upset and announces that Martin is dead and calls Lucrecia a murderer. Gladys wants to know what is going on, but the three sisters decide it’s none of her business and leave the room together. Alone, Florencia cries, Constanza consoles her, and Lucrecia says that none of it is her fault--she says, it’s all Florencia’s fault. Alex arrives and asks what’s wrong and Florencia reveals how Martin died. They’re shocked to learn it was suicide, but Florencia doesn’t believe it was. Alex comforts her.

Martina visits Renato and Christa and reveals that Victoria’s real name isn’t Beatriz Molina--it’s Luisa Dominguez. Martina tells Renato that Luisa/Victoria/Beatriz is a very wealthy woman and Renato is happy to think that he has her right where he wants her. Macario and Patricio continue to argue about the Martin/Amalia issue and Miguel continues to referee. Patricio finally decides to let it drop for the moment, but vows that once they get what they want from Don G, Patricio will deal with Macario. Diego tells German and Claudio that he’s scared he’s going to lose Victoria. German thinks he shouldn’t have rejected her and suggests he go to bed with her and convince her to be his wife. Victoria tells Maria that she’s going to leave Diego alone.

Maria tries to convince Victoria to give up her revenge and trust Diego with the truth about Carolina. Victoria tells Maria that Diego won’t want her anymore when he finds out who she really is. Diego arrives and overhears. He asks her who she really is. He asks if she was in prison or something and she tells him she wasn’t and tells him that he already knows that her birth name isn’t Victoria, but doesn’t want to tell him it’s Luisa because he’ll immediately know that Carolina is Florencia’s daughter. She refuses to tell him and he promises to leave the topic alone and says that he has his own secret that he’d rather not tell her.

He tells her that he expects her at his house that night. She asks why and he says he wants to please her and show her how much he loves her. They kiss as Renato wonders what he’s going to do to Victoria. He congratulates Martina on a well-done job and Christa asks Martina what she’s getting in return for working for Renato. Martina tells him that she’s doing it for the money but Christa thinks Martina likes him. Victoria tells Maria that she and Diego will be together that night. Maria is surprised. Victoria tells Maria that she’s scared because she’s never made love before. Maria asks about Gonzalo and Victoria tells her that what Gonzalo did to her was horrible and he will pay for it.

Diego and German speak to an officer who tells them that they aren’t finished with the autopsy yet. Patricio, Macario, and Miguel continue to plot and plan and decide to wait a few days to see if Don G will die or not. When Patricio and Miguel leave, Macario says that if he’d known Don G would have a heart attack, he’d never have gone to Diego’s ranch to steal his pistol. He thinks about Amalia’s warning and curses Don Chema for his prediction. Victoria says that she’ll never forget what Gonzalo did to her. She says that she’d thought about giving up her revenge and marrying Diego and having a family with him, but decided against it when she learned Florencia meant to take Carolina/Mariana away from her. Maria tries to get her to tell Diego about Carolina, but she’s sure that he’ll hate her for it and she’d lose him forever.

Diego tells German that he needs to buy flowers and stuff for Victoria because he plans to follow German’s advice and make love to Victoria that night. Diego tells him that he’ll be fighting a ghost--Carolina’s father. He knows that Victoria has suffered much and plans to treat her like a queen. Florencia calls Lucrecia a murder and Lucrecia tells her she isn’t. Constanza asks if Diego’s responsible for Martin’s death and Lucrecia becomes upset and yells at them, telling them that Diego’s not a murderer and calls Martin a coward and accuses Florencia of being the reason Martin killed himself.

Diego feels uncomfortable in the police station and tells German that he wants to tell Victoria his secret and everything there is to know about his past. German tells him that he shouldn’t because he doesn’t know everything about hers. They’re about to leave when Patricio arrives. Diego tells him that he’s sorry what happened to his father and offers his support. Patricio tells him thanks and that despite his problems with Patricio’s grandfather, Don G, he doesn’t want any problems with Diego; he says he knows that he and his father were really good friends. Diego tells him that he needs to help Florencia find peace and accept the reality of the situation. He tells Patricio that Florencia still thinks it was murder and not suicide.

Constanza tries to stop the argument between Florencia and Lucrecia. Victoria tells Maria that after tonight, she’ll never see Diego again. She tells Maria that after she gets her revenge, she plans on going back home to her ranch in California and live with her members of Diego and their one night together. She tells Maria that the only thing that will stop her is if people start to suspect that Carolina isn’t really her daughter. Maria warns her about Renato. Christa tells Martina that she wants to talk to alone later. Martina recounts to Renato the facts surrounding Luisa/Victoria’s name change and about Don Gaspar and how she inherited all her money. Martina tells them that (since Victoria obviously isn‘t after money) what she wants is revenge. She reveals that the Monteros hurt Luisa a great deal.

Florencia and Constanza decide to tell Don G that Martin is dead, but not go into details because of his health. Lucrecia isn’t in the least worried about Don G’s health. The conversation turns to Gladys and they worry about her learning their secret (about Florencia‘s daughter). Constanza tries to convince Florencia not to tell anyone about her daughter, but she refuses to keep it a secret anymore. Gladys and Isabela wonder what’s going on with the three Montero sisters and then worry about how they’ll get Don G’s fortune. Alex comforts Patricio and Patricio decides to go and tell his grandfather what happened with Martin. Diego tells Alex that he isn’t sorry Don G had a heart attack, but he isn’t happy about it, either. Alex hopes that the heart attack will make Don G reconsider his life and decide to leave Diego in peace. Diego is in agreement and can’t understand why Don G ahs always hated him so much. He shakes Alex’s hand, gives Patricio his sympathy and he and German leave. Patricio watches Diego leave and wonders what Diego would do if he knew the real reason why Don G wants to get rid of Diego and buy his lands: because Gonzalo is the one who really killed Diego’s half-brother.

Gonzalo goes to see Don G in the hospital and says that he simply wants to keep up appearances. Don G tells him that they have a lot to talk about. He reminds Gonzalo that he saved him from going to prison twice. Victoria and Maria finish talking just as Diego and German arrive. Diego offers to walk her back to the Montero ranch. Victoria tells Diego that he can expect her late in the night because she wants to make sure Carolina is asleep first. Diego asks her to make him a promise: “After tonight, promise me that you won’t ever leave my side.” She tells him to trust her and that the last thing she wants is to leave him.
“Then, promise me,” he insists. She tells him that she can’t and that he knows that her position in life isn’t certain and doesn’t know what tomorrow may bring. She tells him that she can’t promise him anything because she might not be able to keep that promise. She asks if he would prefer to cancel their plans for the night and forget about each other forever. He tells her he’ll be waiting for her that night and they hug.

German tells Flora and Claudio that it’s best that none of them stay in the main house that night because Victoria and Diego will be meeting there. They’re happy for Diego. Florencia wants to tell the whole world that she has a daughter. Lucrecia tells Florencia that people are going to think her crazy if she tells everyone that she has a twenty-year-old daughter. Florencia sticks with her decision as Victoria thinks about Diego and cries, wondering why things have to be the way they are. Diego thinks about her and wonders the same thing.
