Episode Sixty-seven

Don G expresses his regret that he didn’t discover that Dona Lencha was inside before he set the cabin on fire. He swears that it was an accident, but Victoria doesn’t believe him. He tells her that he won’t live long enough to repent for all the things he did wrong and she tells him that if he dies, he’ll just have to watch her destroy his family from hell. Lucrecia is in tears when Diego gives her the divorce papers and tells him that their marriage won’t be the hell he says it will be. He tells her he could never love a woman who’s capable of doing what she’s done to him, but she tells him it’s because he still wants Victoria. He tells her that of course he loves Victoria and he only married Lucrecia to protect Victoria and Carolina from her.

Carolina and Maria worry about what might happen to Victoria. Carolina has a bad feeling that something terrible is happening at the Montero ranch. Gonzalo thinks Gladys said something to Don G about Victoria and they argue. She continues to refuse to give him a divorce and when he angers her, she grabs a magazine with the intention of hitting him. He dares her to do it, but she’s too scared to hit him. Don G learns what Gonzalo did to Victoria and she lets him think that Carolina is Gonzalo’s daughter and tells him that she‘s going to make sure that they get married. He is horrified that Victoria/Luisa would be that cruel to her own daughter. He tells her to leave his family alone. Constanza, Gonzalo, Alex, and Florencia wonder what Victoria and Don G are talking about. Alex expresses his desire to see both Victoria and Carolina fired and kicked off the ranch.

Constanza tells Alex that even if they’re fired, Alex will still have to see Carolina since she’s sure that Macario will marry her. Alex vows to make Macario leave too if he married Carolina and storms out of the room. Patricio forcefully brings Miguel to Macario’s place and Miguel tells them that they’re ruining everything and tells them both that he hates them. They sit Miguel in a chair and Patricio tells Macario that fortunately he was able to get Miguel out of the house before he spilled their plans to Don G. Patricio grabs Miguel and yells at him. He tells Macario to get his pistol and when Miguel tries to leave, they force him back into his seat.

Isabela tells Christa that she doesn’t think that anyone suspects what she and Macario did and wants to talk to him to make sure no one suspects. Isabela tells her that she learned that Carolina was looking for her and Macario and they hope Carolina doesn’t suspect the truth. Christa tells her that if Macario gives them any problems, Renato will have to engineer an accidental death for Macario. Patricio holds a pistol to Miguel’s head and he begs them not to hurt him. They are angry because he was stupid enough to fall for Don G’s trick and now he’s left with nothing--not the money or the family name. Pistol still to his head, Miguel begins to pray.

Florencia and Constanza worry about Miguel and Constanza thinks Miguel was so upset that he might try to hurt himself. The conversation turns to Patricio and Florencia thinks that he’s somewhere calming Miguel down. Macario asks Patricio if he’s going to kill Miguel in cold blood. Patricio says that maybe he won’t kill Miguel but assures Macario that his own death (for killing Patricio‘s father) is still on his to-do list once they’re plans have come to fruition. The two of them face off and Macario tells Patricio that they’ll just have to wait and see who kills who. Hopefully, Miguel asks if they’ve changed their minds about killing him and tries to leave. They sit him back down and put the pistol back to his head, telling him that whether or not he dies, depends solely upon him. Patricio tells him that if he breathes a word about their plans, he’ll kill him. Macario tells him that if Patricio doesn’t do it, he will.

Lucrecia cries and asks Diego what Victoria has that she doesn’t and why he loves her so much. He tells her that when it came down to choosing between her revenge and her love for him, Victoria sacrificed her revenge to be with him while all Lucrecia did was blackmail him. He tells her that all she and her family do is hurt people and tells her how badly they ruined Victoria’s life and how Victoria gave all of that up just to be with him. She tries to make Diego believe that Victoria doesn’t love him, but loves Gonzalo instead, but Diego tells her that he’s not stupid and knows that Victoria was just trying to make him jealous and she’s returned to her plans to get revenge against the Monteros solely because she and Diego are no longer together. Angrily, Lucrecia tells him that she hopes her brother finds out soon that Victoria is Luisa Dominguez and gets rid of her once and for all. Diego tells her that if Gonzalo touches her, he’ll kill him.

Alex and Gonzalo wonder what Victoria and Don G are talking about. Alex expresses his disapproval of Gonzalo’s plans to marry Victoria Don G wonders how Victoria could be capable of doing this to Carolina and Alex. He begs her to keep Carolina and Alex apart. He tells her to get her revenge against him, Gonzalo and Gladys, but to leave Alex and Carolina alone because they’re innocent. He continues to beg and she enjoys seeing him agonize over what she’s done and what she plans to do. He asks her what he can offer her to change her mind. She tells him that the only thing she wants is Lucrecia.

Lucrecia learns that Diego isn’t sleeping in the master bedroom with her and she threatens him. He tells her to do whatever she wants to do and wishes her a goodnight, telling her that from now on he’ll be sleeping in the guest bedroom. Before he leaves, he reminds her that their marriage will be hell that they’ll both live in. When he leaves, Lucrecia lies down on the bed and cries. She yells at the empty room saying, “Diego, you’re my husband now, you can‘t do this to me! You’re my husband! I love you!” She continues to cry. German follows Diego into his room because he heard yelling. Diego tells him to get used to the yelling and to expect it every day. Still crying, Lucrecia walks in and tells Diego that he can’t treat her like this and that it’s their wedding night and they should be together. Diego tells German to take her back to her room and German pulls her out.

Victoria tells Don G that only Diego’s love could make her forget her revenge and tells him that Lucrecia broke them up. She says that every time something bad happens in her life, there’s a Montero behind it. Don G tells her that he didn’t want Lucrecia and Diego to marry and reminds her that he went to the wedding and tried to stop it, but to no avail. She tells him her reasons for wanting revenge against Gladys, too--not that Gladys made her lose her child, but she lies telling him that Gladys assaulted her and tried to kill her baby. Gladys learns that Christa needs to get into Don G’s bedroom so that she can give him another heart attack. Christa tells her to find a way to get Victoria out of the room so that she can get to Don G. Alex tells Gonzalo that he’s no longer a child and he should stand up to his father and divorce Gladys without Don G’s permission.

Don G begs Victoria to keep Carolina and Alex apart, but she refuses. He asks her to let him see Carolina, but she tells him that he’ll never get to see his granddaughter. He tells her that he’ll send for her and tell her that she and Alex are brother and sister. Victoria tells him that Carolina is in a place that he‘ll never be permitted to trespass--Diego Ibarra’s ranch. Diego thinks about when Gonzalo showed up at his wedding with Victoria on his arm. He remembers Victoria wearing his mother’s jewelry and goes downstairs to speak with Maria. Maria tells him that Victoria has a lot of money she did what she thought was best when she sold the jewelry to Victoria, and he tells her that she shouldn’t have done it, even though he’s grateful. He tells her that Victoria was destined to receive his mother’s jewelry and tells Maria how much he still loves Victoria. He tells her that Gonzalo is going to kill her and he’ll die of sadness because he won’t be able to stop him.

Victoria tells Don G that she hopes God forgives him before he dies because she never will. Fatigued and weak, he begs her to let him see his granddaughter once before he dies. He tells her that she‘s going to hell for what she‘s doing to her own daughter. She tells him that her life‘s been hell since she met the Monteros. Alex walks in with Ramon and Don G tries to tell him. Don G’s health is deteriorating rapidly and Ramon and Alex try to calm him down but Don G keeps telling Alex to make Victoria tell him. Alex looks at Victoria while Ramon puts an oxygen mask on Don G, muffling his words.

Diego tells Maria that he wants to give Victoria her money back and she asks why. He tells her that it’s a matter of dignity. Alex asks Victoria what Don G wanted her to tell him, but she tells him that Carolina was set up by Macario. He doesn’t respond, just runs his hand through his hair and leaves. Macario and Patricio are happy that Don G doesn’t have much longer to live. Don G is in very bad condition as Ramon tries to calm him down. Don G says that he never thought Victoria would return for revenge and says that God is punishing cruelly for all of his sins. Florencia asks Victoria what she and Don G were talking about and Victoria tells her that if Don G doesn’t die, she and everyone else will find out something that will change their lives forever.

The next day, Diego tells German to go to the bank and get the money out and to send Edelmiro to the Montero ranch and discover if there’s going to be some kind of backlash for marrying Lucrecia. At breakfast, everyone wonders about when Don G will die. Alex is appalled that some people are waiting for his grandfather’s death and Gonzalo comments that Gladys is the only one who really doesn’t want Don G to die because she doesn’t want to give Gonzalo a divorce. Ramon interrupts their meal and informs them that Don G is in a very bad state and it wouldn’t matter if he took him to the hospital because it wouldn’t help his condition.

Don G thinks about Victoria’s confessions the night before and is tormented by their conversation. Worried, Alex goes to see Don G but won’t let him talk. Don G tries to tell him, but Alex won’t let him and tries to calm him down, telling him that he won’t move out and promises to take care of the family while Don G recuperates. Don G gives up trying to tell him and thinks to himself that Alex doesn’t deserve what Victoria plans to do to him. Gonzalo finds Victoria in the kitchen and asks what she and Don G were talking about yesterday. She tells him that she didn’t tell him yesterday because he was drunk. He tells her not to reproach him for drinking and promises that when they get married, he’ll stop. He asks if she spoke to Don G about Gladys and she tells him that she did. Gladys walks in then and tells Gonzalo that she’ll never give him a divorce even if Don G gives his permission.

Victoria tells her that she shouldn’t be so sure of that and walks out. Victoria runs into Christa who tells her that Renato wants to meet with her today. Christa warns her that her relationship with Renato had better be purely professional because Renato belongs to her. Victoria tells her that Renato Christa’s only until Victoria decides to take him away from her. Martina gives Renato a report on all of Victoria’s finances. She tells him that he has to get Victoria’s signature so that her friend can forge documents for Renato so that he can get control over all of Victoria’s money. Victoria gets a visit from Diego. She asks him why he’s there and he tosses money on the table, telling her that he came to return the money that she leant him without his permission.

She asks him how he could be so stupid and closes the door behind him, telling him that if they find him there they’ll kill him and reminds him of Don G‘s threat. He tells her that since she’s worried about what might happen to him, it must mean that she still loves him. She tells him that she does not love him and tells him that she’s simply worried about the baby he’s expecting with Lucrecia, because the child is innocent and doesn’t deserve to lose its father before he’s even born. Flora finds Lucrecia in bed and brings food for Diego’s baby. Lucrecia, who thought it was Diego entering her room, asks Flora when she’s going to stop bothering her and start treating her with the respect she deserves because she’s Diego’s wife. Flora tells her that she only cares about the baby and leaves.

Florencia tells Constanza that she’s gong to visit Diego because he promised to help her find her daughter and she wants him to find out if Lucrecia told her the truth about her daughter and Luisa. Constanza confesses to her sister that she doesn’t care whether or not her father dies. Lucrecia complains about the food and Flora tells her that she’d better eat it because it’s good for the baby. Lucrecia tells her it’s not necessary to bring her breakfast in bed. Flora tells her that she’s not doing it to for her--she’s doing it for herself and the rest of the household because none of them want to have their meals with Lucrecia. When she leaves, Lucrecia vows that Flora’s going to pay for the way she treats her.

Diego doubts Victoria is so concerned about the baby. She tells him to take his money and leave because she’ll never sell his mother’s jewelry back to him. Diego tosses the money back on the table and says, “I’m not asking you to sell them back to me. What I’m--” She interrupts him and tells him that he can’t give her orders and tells him that he’ll never get the jewelry back and that it‘s going to be a part of her revenge. He shakes his head and asks, “And who’s asking you to give me the jewelry back?” She looks confused.
