Victoria gives Carolina the bad news. Alex and Miguel argue when Gonzalo calls Miguel a hypocrite for pretending to be upset at Don G’s death. He says that Alex is the only one who didn’t want Don G to die. Gladys says that she didn’t want it, either. Gonzalo says that the only reason she wanted Don G alive is so that she could stay married to him, and now that he’s dead, Gonzalo is going to marry Victoria. Victoria consoles Carolina. Carolina begs her to leave with her and go far away from the ranch. Victoria refuses, but suggests that Carolina leave by herself and go back to school. Carolina tells her that that’s impossible because they don’t have any money. Victoria looks guilty and Carolina asks her if she lied to her about losing all their money.
Gladys tells Gonzalo that it doesn’t matter that Don G is dead because she’ll never give him a divorce. Alex tries tot stop the fight brewing between them. Gladys leaves to get dressed. Florencia and Constanza are left alone together and Florencia tells her sister that Don G promised to help her find her daughter. She says that Don G told her that she’d find her daughter within a month and now that he’s dead, he can’t fulfill his promise. Lucrecia is surprised at what Diego’s wearing to the funeral and he tells her that she shouldn’t be so happy that her father’s died. She can barely contain her happiness and tells him that no one suspects what she and Gonzalo have planned.
Macario realizes that Don G died before he could leave him the money he promised to give him in exchange for telling Alex the truth about what happened between him and Carolina. He decides that he and Carolina must be destined to be together, but plans to hook up with Amalia again. Amalia sleeps and dreams about her kiss with German. Macario enters her bedroom and watches her sleep, thinking about all the fun they’ve had together. Amalia wakes up and finds him in her room and asks what he‘s doing there. He tells her that he’s at the point of leaving Carolina. Carolina confronts her mother for lying about their financial situation, but Victoria doesn’t want to tell the truth. Carolina asks her if she lied to her just so that she can get her revenge against the Monteros, but Victoria doesn’t answer. Carolina asks her how she could possibly do such a thing to her own daughter.
Macario tells Amalia that he’s going to leave Carolina and kisses her. Amalia pulls away from him, remembering her kiss with German. He asks her what’s wrong and she tells him that she thinks that she’s no longer in love with him. Diego tells German that he’s been told that Don G died, but thinks it might not be true. Lucrecia is irritated that he thinks she’d lie about something like that. Diego tells her that he believes both she and her family are capable of doing absolutely anything. Constanza tells Florencia that maybe there’s something in their father’s will about her daughter and Florencia says that she’s going to find out tomorrow. Carolina can’t believe her mother lied to her and won’t take her mother’s offer to send her away to school. She tells her that what she did to her isn’t fair and angrily asks her mother how far she’s going to go with her revenge and asks her if she wants to die. Upset, Victoria slaps her.
Renato reads the papers Martina brought him and tells Christa that Victoria has a lot of money and he plans to take it as well as the Montero fortune. Florencia tells Constanza that Diego refused to help her and she knows that Lucreci knows something about her daughter. Gladys comes downstairs just as Lucrecia arrives with Diego. Gladys reminds Lucrecia that she’s no longer welcome at the ranch--Don G’s orders. Renato tells Christa that he’s sure that the Montero family is fighting over the inheritance. He tells her that he had spies in the hospital watching Don G and they told him that the old man didn’t change his will while he was there because he didn’t have time. They think Alex inherited everything and want Isabela to get Alex to marry her.
Isabela feel sill and plans to tell Alex soon that she’s pregnant. Patricio approaches her and asks if she’s told Alex. She tells him that she’s going to pass the baby off as Alex’s. Patricio tells her that she owes him and that if he tells Alex that the child she’s expecting isn’t his, Alex will run back to Carolina. Victoria is angry with Carolina, telling her that she has a right to be there and a right to get her revenge against the Monteros. Carolina tells her that she’s gone crazy. Macario tells Amalia that she belongs to him, but she pushes him away, telling him that she won’t be with him until he breaks up with Carolina and she figures out if she’s still in love with him or not. Macario tells her that he’s the only one who will protect her now that Don G is dead.
Diego wants to leave the ranch, but Lucrecia refuses. Gladys tells her to leave, but Florencia tells Gladys to leave Lucrecia alone. Gladys and Lucrecia continue to argue. Constanza tells Gladys that she isn’t a real Montero and should stay out of family matters. Diego is amused and Gladys turns to him and calls him a bastard. Diego tells her that she isn’t as saintly as she likes to pretend she is and tells her that she should concentrate on her husband and Victoria. Carolina, crying, tells Victoria how much it pains her to see what kind of person she really is and since she is of age, Victoria should forget all about her because she now no longer has a daughter. Victoria is shocked and tearful at her words.
Carolina walks over to open the door and tells Victoria to leave. She tells her that she doesn’t want to see her ever again and can’t believe her own mother, her own blood would make her believe that they were poor and lie to her the way she did. Victoria tells her that if she hadn’t brought them there, she never would have met Alex, but Carolina won’t hear her excuses. Carolina blames her for everything bad that’s happened--including what happened with Alex. Isabela consoles Alex as she remembers Patricio’s words. Alex thanks her for hanging out with him and she tells him that she knows how much he loved his grandfather and doesn’t want to leave him alone. Alex wishes what Don G told him were true and that Carolina never betrayed him.
Victoria tells Carolina not to blame her for what happened with Alex, but Carolina tells her that if they’d never come there, she never would have met Alex and she wouldn’t be suffering so much. Victoria tells her that she would have met Alex somewhere else because that’s the way true love is. The conversation turns to Diego and Victoria tells her that if Carolina hadn’t had her purse stolen, she wouldn’t have ever seen Diego again. Carolina tells her that if she would only leave Gonzalo alone, Diego would divorce Lucrecia for her. Victoria tells her that would never happen because she already asked Diego to divorce her and he refused.
Constanza picks at Gladys, saying that Gladys doesn’t know how to control her husband. Florencia tells Gladys that Gonzalo detests her and Constanza says that Gonzalo has absolutely no respect for her. Lucrecia adds that Gonzalo wants Victoria. Diego looks uncomfortable. Gonzalo and Miguel have a little cake while they wait for the others to arrive. Gonzalo tells Alex that he’s sorry that he’s so hurt that Don G’s died. Isabela gets sick and runs to the bathroom. Gladys insults Victoria and Florencia asks Diego what’s the big secret Victoria is hiding, but he tells her he doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
Victoria tells Carolina that she asked Diego to divorce Lucrecia and offered to give up her revenge for him, but he refused. Lucrecia says that she thinks Victoria is hiding something, too, and wonders what it is. Constanza tells them all that this isn’t the time to fight and Lucrecia calls her a hypocrite for pretending to be upset that Don G died. Gladys claims she didn’t want the old man dead, either, but Lucrecia tells her that the only thing she cared about was keeping Gonzalo from divorcing her. Diego grows tired of the bickering and leaves. Ruben wonders when the service will start as Gerardo and Bianca are sure that if it doesn’t happen soon, everyone might start fighting. Patricio and Miguel worry about how they’re going to get their hands on Don G’s fortune. Patricio is worried about Isabela, telling Miguel that he can’t let her ruin his plans and he realizes he has to stay on Alex’s good side.
Alex admits to his father that he and Isabela had sex once since arriving at the ranch and Gonzalo tells him that if she’s pregnant, it’s not necessary that he marry her, but he’ll be responsible for the child. Carolina asks Victoria to do for her what she was going to do for Diego--give up her revenge for love of her only daughter. Diego goes home and tells German that no one cared about Don G. Diego smiles when he thinks about how angry Lucrecia must be at him for refusing to accompany her. Lucreica tells Gladys not to say anything about Diego refusing to come to her father’s funeral. Gonzalo asks Lucrecia where her husband is and she walks off without answering him.
Alex asks Florencia is Don G told her something about Macario and Carolina. She says he didn’t and Alex tells her that now that Don G is dead, he doesn’t know how he’s going to find out the truth. He tells her that he doesn’t want to get his hopes up , but he has to find out if Carolina betrayed him or not. Carolina begs her to go back to California with her.. Victoria won’t give up her revenge for Carolina, telling her that she wants to see her happy with Alex. Carolina is confused when Victoria tells her that she has a right to be at the Montero ranch. Alex is worried that if Carolina is innocent, it will be too late for them because she might not want to be with him anymore knowing that he didn’t trust her. Carolina asks Victoria what she means about her having a right to be there.
Victoria dodges the question and Carolina begs her to give up her revenge for her and asks her if she really wants to lose her only daughter forever. Victoria refuses, telling her that whenever she needs her, she’ll always be at her side. She kisses Carolina and leaves her crying. Patricio and Miguel are happy that Don G is dead, but plan to pretend to be upset in front of everyone else. Rocio and Edelmiro take advantage of the empty ranch and drink a little brandy. Later, everyone returns back to the ranch and Gladys tells Alex to take Iabela to her room because she doesn’t feel well. Alone, Gladys thinks that no one knows that she killed Don G. Don Chema reads his cards and says that Don G’s death is going to cost Gladys dearly. The cards tell him that the Montero women will suffer a great deal.
The cards tell him that Lucrecia is going to pay for all the things she’s done and she’ll never find the happiness she so desperately wants. Lucrecia arrives back at Los Encinos and tries to squeeze a little sympathy out of Flora, telling her that Diego didn’t go with her. Flora tells her she has to stay calm and think about the baby and Lucrecia tells her that Diego doesn’t want the baby and that she’s thinking about taking the baby and moving far away so that Diego will never get to see his child. The cards tell Don Chema that Luisa/Victoria’s future is completely in her hands and her happiness depends on her. Victoria tells Maria that Carolina knows that they still have their money and Maria tells her that she can’t blame Carolina for her attitude. Victoria tells her that she doesn’t know how she’ll live knowing that Carolina thinks badly of her. She tells Maria that she feels like Carolina doesn’t want her anymore. Carolina tells Diego what happened with Victoria and how hurt and betrayed she feels. Diego tells her that if Victoria is ever in danger, she should come and tell him and he’ll try to find a way to make her come and live on his ranch. Flora walks up and confronts Diego for not caring for his child and for treating Lucrecia badly. Irritated, Diego blurts out the truth--Lucrecia isn’t pregnant. Flora and Carolina are shocked at his confession.
