Diego tries to console Carolina after her confrontation with Victoria as Maria finds Victoria crying. She tells Maria what happened, that Carolina told her that she hates her. Miguel and Patricio argue and Patricio reminds him that he’s the executor of Don G’s estate and if he wants to, he could keep Alex as heir or even make Gerardo the heir. His threat brings Miguel down a few notches and Miguel asks if Patricio thinks that they can do without involving Macario in their plans because they don’t really need him. Patricio tells him not to worry about Macario because he’s now out of their plans. Miguel is surprised. Gonzalo meets with Macario and tells him that he knows that he, Patricio and Miguel are trying to get the fortune for themselves.
Macario tries to deny it, but Gonzalo tells him that he wants him to stop working with Patricio and Miguel and join forces with Gonzalo.
Miguel admits to being happy that Macario is no longer with them because he never trusted him. Patricio tells him that he told Macario they’d pay him once they get the money, but vows not to trust Macario because he could take everything and leave them nothing. Gonzalo tells Macario that he wants him on his side and offers him money in exchange for his help. Macario ultimately agrees and Gonzalo tells him that they have to find the last will and destroy it so that all that’s left is the original which named Gonzalo as heir. Gonzalo warns him against stabbing him in the back and tells him that he wants him to tell Alex that he tricked him into thinking Carolina betrayed him. Thinking to himself, Macario realizes that Gonzalo knows everything, more than he thought he knew. He agrees to tell Alex the truth. “Then what Carolina said was true,” Gonzalo says. Macario realizes that Gonzalo hadn’t known it was all a trap. Gonzalo admits that he didn’t know the truth until just now. He warns him again about trying to betray him.
Diego talks to Carolina about Victoria, but Carolina thinks that her mother doesn’t love her and never wanted her. Lucrecia walks up and Carolina leaves. Lucrecia talks bad about her to Diego, telling him that she was Alex and Macario at the same time. He tells her not to talk about something that she knows absolutely nothing. He tells her that Macario set her up and Carolina loves Alex. Gonzalo takes his leave of Macario as Renato meets with Gladys who tells him that she has a lot of problems and can’t help him at the moment. Renato says perhaps it’s time he spoke with Alex to try to convince him to marry Isabela. Alex finds Macario and orders him to tell him what really happened. He says he’ll tell the truth, but wants to know first how he can be sure that he’ll keep his promise. Alex tells him that he knows him well and knows that he always does what he says he’s going to do. Macario admits the truth. Alex becomes angry and asks him if he did it to break them up so that he could have her to himself, but Macario tells him that he did it because Don G told him to do it.
Victoria goes to her cabin and finds Gonzalo in her bed. He tells her he wants to talk to her and asks if she realizes all the things he’s doing for her and list them one-by-one--he’s divorcing Gladys and hurting his son at the same time by divorcing his mother. She tells him that she didn’t ask him to do anything for her and he tells her that she enchants him, then grabs a handful of her hair and wraps his other hand around her throat and threatens to kill her if she betrays him with Diego. His hand on her neck tightens and she tells him how much she hates Diego for betraying her. Gonzalo tells her that when Diego walked into the living room and found them together, she didn’t look at him with hatred, she looked at him with love. He asks her if she’s going to continue denying that she still has feelings for Diego. Lucrecia tells Diego that Carolina is just like Victoria--an opportunist who’s capable of manipulating a man’s feelings just to get what she wants. They argue about Carolina.
Alex refuses to believe that Don G told Macario to seduce Carolina and take her from Alex, but Macario sticks to his story. German and Amalia run into Carolina. German asks what’s wrong and Amalia asks if Alex has finally found out that she really was with Macario. Carolina yells at her to stop and tells her that she’s not involved romantically with Macario and storms off, angry. They wonder if Carolina’s in the middle of some kind of lover’s spat and Amalia tells him that she’s beginning to understand what love is and thinks that she’s discovering what love is with him. They smile at each other. Claudio and Bianca clean up the church just so that they’ll have a reason to spend more time together. They both reach down to pick up a towel and touch hands. They look at each other, then kiss. The kiss ends and before Claudio says anything, Bianca tells him that he doesn’t have to ask her to be his novia because she’s wanted to be since the day she met him. He holds her hands and tells her that, no matter what others might say, love at first sight really does exist. They kiss again. The priest interrupts them. They leave and Padre Cirpiano wishes that all couples could be as happy as Claudio and Bianca and thinks about Diego and Victoria. He asks God to please not send Lucrecia back to see him because the woman terrifies him.
Diego and Lucrecia argue over Carolina and Victoria. He tells her to stop talking bad about Carolina because she’s like a daughter to him and he’ll always love and protect her for ever. Lucrecia tells him that he loves Carolina because she’s Victoria’s daughter and reminds him that she’s going to marry Gonzalo. She reminds him of what he witnessed that afternoon and Diego tells her that they aren’t married yet and until he witnesses their wedding, he’s going to continue to hope that it doesn’t happen. Gonzalo releases Victoria by tossing her on the bed. Victoria admits that she still has feelings for him and walks over to him, begging him to help her forget Diego. Thinking to herself, she says that she has to be much more careful around Gonzalo. He tells her that he is helping her. He reminds her that he still hasn’t told Carolina that she isn’t her real mother.
Amalia goes to see Carolina. Carolina doesn’t turn around to see her but asks what she wants. Amalia says she’s never seen her like this and just wanted to know what’s wrong. Carolina tells her that she won’t sit there and endure more of her insults. Amalia sits down and asks her if she’s upset about Alex and Macario. Carolina reminds her that she doesn’t care about her because she’s no longer her friend because she believed Macairo’s lies. She tells Amalia that even though she wants to hate her, she can’t. Alex still thinks Macario is lying about Don G telling him to seduce Carolina. Angered, Alex grabs him and threatens to kill him for accusing his grandfather of betraying him. Gladys tells Renato that he can’t tell Alex that truth, that he is his son and not Gonzalo’s. He tells her that if she can’t convince Alex to marry Isabela, then he has every right to try to get the Montero fortune by using another method. She asks him what other method he’s thinking about using. He tells her that instead of giving Alex a wife who would take all of his money, he’ll give Alex his biological father who will take all of his money.
Alex blames Macario for his sleeping with Isabela because if he hadn’t took Carolina away from him, he never would have looked at another woman. Macario tells him that he can’t blame someone else for his mistakes. He tells him that now that he’s told the truth, he wants the money Alex promised him. Alex tells him that he’s not giving him anything. Macario stops him from leaving, telling him he has to keep his promise, but Alex is enraged, telling him that not only did he destroy his life, but he hurt Carolina, as well. He grabs him by his shirt and calls him a, “maldita infeliz,” for hurting Carolina. Amalia tells Carolina that she wants to hate her too, but can’t. She says she feels bad when she sees Carolina upset like she is now. Carolina tells her not to play with her, but Amalia tells her that she’s serious. Carolina still doesn’t believe her and tells her not to worry because she’ll never be returning to the Montero ranch and Amalia will never have to see her again. Amalia asks what she’ll do about her job. Carolina says that she’ll quit and hopes that she’ll finally realize that she doesn’t want Macario and never did. She tells her to leave her alone.
Macario pushes Alex’s hands off of him and tells him that he can’t fight with the boss’s son. Alex tells him not to give him any excuses and punches him. Macario hit’s the ground and Alex yells at him to get up and fight him like a man. Macario gets up, rubbing his face where Alex hit him, and tells him that if he weren’t his boss’s son, he’d finish him off. Alex is about to punch him again when Gerardo grabs him and pulls him off of Macario. Macario tells him again that Don G told him to seduce Carolina. Alex struggles to break free, but Gerardo continues to hold him back. Gladys agrees to continue to try to convince Alex to marry Isabela for the baby’s sake in exchange for Renato not telling Alex that he’s his father. Renato tells her that he can’t promise her anything and thinks Alex finding who his real father is might work in his favor. He tells her that if he told Alex he was his father, he wouldn’t have to deal with Gladys and the rest of his women because his son would be a multimillionaire and Renato could get control by pulling the father card.
Gerardo continues to try to hold Alex back and Macario angers him more by telling him that he enjoyed Don G’s orders because he liked kissing Carolina in front of him. Gerardo makes Alex leave and turns to Macario, telling him to stay away from Alex and tells him to hope that Carolina forgives him because if she doesn’t Macario is going to see exactly what Alex is capable of doing. Carolina asks Amalia why she hasn’t left yet because they have nothing to talk about. Amalia tells Carolina that she thinks she might have to ask for her forgiveness. Carolina tells her it’s too late because she doesn’t nothing matters to her anymore. Amalia learns from her that Isabela is expecting Alex’s baby. Isabela asks Christa if Renato was really angry with her when she last saw him. Christa tells her that Renato wants to speak with her urgently. Isabela begs God not to let Renato kill her baby. Martina show up for the punishment Renato promised her and Christa laughs at them both, telling them that they’ll have to wait to see what punishment Renato has in store for them.
Renato tells Gladys how happy he is that his son is wealthy and Gladys tells him that no matter what happens, Alex will never accept Renato as a father because he loves Gonzalo too much. She angers him and he grabs her by her neck. Gerardo tells Alex that maybe Macario was lying, but Alex tells him that they both know what Don G is capable of and thinks he really did tell Macario to seduce Carolina. He tells Gerardo he needs to see Carolina. Gerardo tells him that Carolina’s left the ranch and Alex is beside himself, wondering where she is. Gerardo doesn’t know either and Alex decides to go find Victoria, certain that she’ll know where Carolina is. Gonzalo wraps his arms around Victoria and reminds her that if she wants to keep Carolina from finding out she isn’t her real mother, she’ll have to marry him. He tells her that he won’t allow her to be unfaithful to him with Diego. Victoria tells him that she’s not going to cheat on him with Diego or anyone else. Gonzalo warns her that when he’s good, he’s really good but when he’s bad, he’s worse. He threatens to kill them both if he sees her and Diego again. He kisses her and she suffers through it and wonders if he should make her his lover before they get married. He begins to kiss her neck.
Gonzalo asks Victoria if she’s scared and tells her that he knows about her and Diego being together in her bed because Gladys told him. He vows that she will be his in every way and kiss her again. He stops, telling her that he’s not going to sleep with her just yet and wonders if he’ll have the patience to wait for the wedding. He leaves. Lucrecia tells Diego that he can’t stop Gonzalo’s wedding to Victoria and he tells her that she might be right but marrying Gonzalo won’t make him stop loving her. She calls him a poor idiot and asks how he could possibly love a woman who’s going to marry another man. He asks her how she (Lucrecia) could be in love with someone who doesn’t want her. She has nothing to say to that. “Do you see what I mean, Lucrecia?” He tells her that what’s between him and Victoria isn’t in his mind, it’s in his heart and soul and it’s something he has no control over. He asks her if she understands what he’s saying.
Gladys tells Renato that he’s not going to tell Alex anything because if he does, Gladys will lose her son forever and if she loses, then Renato will lose to because she’ll take him down with her. Alex finds Victoria in her cabin and tells her that he’ll never accept her as his father’s wife. Gonzalo meets with Macario and asks if he did what he told him to do. He tells him that he did and Gonzalo is happy for his son, saying he’s the only member of his family who’s worth anything. He tells Macario that Alex can finally fulfill his dream of marrying Carolina and he will support his son’s marriage. Carolina tells Amalia that Isabela is expecting Alex’s baby and she now has absolutely no hopes of ever being happy. Suspicious, Amalia asks her why she’s so sure that it’s Alex’s baby.
Renato tells Gladys that he’s not going to tell Alex the truth now, but she’ll have to help him make Alex like him so that Renato can manipulate him when the time comes. Renato threatens her again and leaves as Alex tells Victoria that he’ll never accept her as Gonzalo’s wife and will prevent the marriage if he can. Victoria tells him that with or without her, Gonzalo will divorce Gladys and it’s not her fault that Gonzalo never loved his wife. Alex tells her that the divorce will happen, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll let Gladys be victimized. She tells him that his mother isn’t exactly what she appears to be. He tells her that he knows Gladys has made many mistakes, but everything she’s done, she’s done for love of Gonzalo while Victoria only wants him for his money.
Macario tells Gonzalo that Don G was the one who wanted him to seduce Carolina and take her away from Alex. Gonzalo hopes his father is rotting in hell. Macario tells Gonzalo that Alex hit him, but he didn’t hit him back because he’s the boss’s son. Gonzalo warns him against ever touching his son, telling him that hurting Alex is something he could never forgive. He tells Macario that Alex is sacred and no one in the ranch can touch him or do him harm. Alex continues to believe and accuse Victoria of only being after his father for the money. Victoria tells him that he has no idea what she’s doing there but soon everyone will find out. He’s confused and wants to know what she’s talking about. Victoria tells him that he’ll find out soon enough and assures him that Carolina never cheated on him. Alex tells her that he knows because he got Macario to confess that he broke them up and Carolina is innocent.
Carolina thinks Amalia is right to doubt that Isabela’s baby is Alex, but says that it doesn’t matter because Alex believes it and will surely marry her. Amalia agrees, saying that Gladys will make him marry Isabela. Carolina tells her that Alex should take responsibility for his actions and tells her that all men are bad. A little hesitant, Amalia asks if there’s nothing between her and Macario. Carolina tells her that there isn’t and to leave, adding that she hopes she really did leave Macario because he doesn’t deserve her. Then, she reveals her plans to leave the ranch because she has nothing left. She tells her that her best friend (Amalia) is no longer her friend, Alex hates her, and the problems with her mother are reasons why she’s decided to leave. She admits that she’s happy to have met Diego and thinks of him as a father. Diego thinks about the day Victoria first showed up on his ranch.
Lucreica sits next to Diego, teary-eyed. He asks what she wants and she tells him that she wants an opportunity to show him how much she loves him. Victoria tells Alex that she’s happy he knows the truth about Carolina, but says that it’s too late because Isabela has him trapped. He tells her that she’s wrong, swearing to take care of his children, but also saying that he’s not marrying Isabela just because she’s pregnant. He tells her that he wanted to speak with Carolina and asks her to help him. Victoria tells him that she’s sorry but she can’t do anything for him because she and Carolina had a fight, but tells him that if he wants to talk to her, Carolina’s living on Diego’s ranch. He looks surprised to learn where she is. Tears drop from Lucrecia’s eyes as Diego tells her that she’s wasting her time because his feelings for Victoria are profound and nothing Lucrecia does will make him want her. He tells her that he has absolutely no way of controlling his feelings where Victoria is concerned. “But she’s going to marry my brother,” she tells him again. He tells her that he’s going to try to prevent that from happening and if he can’t, it doesn’t matter because he’ll never stop loving Victoria. He tells her that it was useless marrying him because he’ll always love Victoria. He asks her to please give him his freedom.
