Episode Eighty-seven

Patricio and Miguel go to a bar and order drinks while they argue about when to kill Alex. Patricio tells Miguel that since he’s the executor of the estate, he can change his mind at any time and switch to Alex’s side, leaving Miguel with nothing. His threat works and Miguel agrees that killing Alex isn’t something they can do immediately. Alex and Gerardo talk and Alex doesn’t know what to believe, but hopes Gonzalo was telling the truth about Carolina not being his sister. Rocio rushes in to tell them that Bianca’s locked up in her room and Ruben plans to send her to a convent. They run upstairs to Bianca’s room and try to pick the lock. Gerardo wants to go and find his father and make him give him the keys, but Alex stops him, saying that he’ll go instead.

Gonzalo informs Gladys of his intentions to divorce her as soon as the will is read, but Gladys threatens to use Alex against him. Gonzalo plans to show Alex that Carolina isn’t his sister. Bianca tells Alex how sorry she is for him and Carolina. Alex tells them that with or without Carolina, he’s still leaving the ranch now that he knows what kind of people his parents really are. Florencia is still upset with Victoria, telling her how much she hates her for stealing her daughter’s love from her. Victoria tells her that Carolina hates her because she lied and said that Carolina is Gonzalo’s child. She tells Florencia that now is her chance to take advantage of the situation and begin to make Carolina care for her. Diego can’t convince Carolina to forgive Victoria and she tells him to stop calling Victoria her mother. Diego tells her that Victoria wanted him to tell her the truth before anyone told her that she was Alex’s sister. Carolina tells him that Victoria is dead to her now as Victoria tells Florencia how Carolina came to believe that she is Alex’s sister.

She tells Florencia that Carolina doesn’t know who her real mother is. Diego tries to explain things, but Carolina’s feelings don’t change. He tells her that he’ll talk to her in a couple days because she is too upset to hear him now. She says that she hates Victoria, but stops Diego from leaving. She asks him who her real mother is. He’s about to tell her when the door opens and Victoria walks in. Carolina, still calling her Victoria, tells her that she never wants to see her again and asks why she’s there. Victoria tells her that she wants to present her real mother. Florencia walks in, tearful and stares at Carolina. Victoria says that she hopes they’ll be very happy and forgive her someday. Florencia approaches Carolina and she cries, telling Carolina how long she’s searched for her. Florencia hugs her, still crying. Claudio is anxious for news about Bianca.

Gerardo and Alex confront Ruben and they argue over Bianca as Amalia eavesdrops at the door. Gerardo and Alex accuse Ruben of wanting to make Bianca marry someone he chooses just like Don G did with his daughters. They also accuse Ruben of marrying Constanza just because he wanted Don G’s money. Ruben still plans to send Bianca to a convent tomorrow even though she’s six days away from being of legal age. Victoria tells Carolina that she always loved her as if she was her own and asks for forgiveness. She tells her and Florencia that she’ll suffer the rest of her life without Carolina and tells Florencia that she can send her to prison if she wants to, but she’s already been punished because now Carolina hates her. Florencia, Victoria, and Carolina are all in tears. Victoria and Diego leave as Florencia holds Carolina who’s still crying,.

Victoria and Diego run into Constanza who wants to know what’s happened. Ruben catches Gladys leaving the house and wonders where such a saintly woman like her could be going at that hour and she tells him that she’s going to church to pray that Alex doesn’t marry Carolina. Florencia tells Carolina that she now understands why she’s always felt so comfortable and affectionate towards her and asks her not to speak formally to her. Carolina tells her that she’s sorry but she can’t return all her feelings and immediately become her daughter because it’s too soon. Florencia understands that she needs time and tells her not to worry because she’ll forget everything that’s happened and forget Victoria, too. Carolina tells her that even though she said she hates Victoria, it wasn’t true and admits that she still loves her because she was her mother.

Diego tells Constanza that Carolina didn’t reject Florencia and when they left, she and Carolina were hugging. Constanza tells Victoria that they have to talk at some point, but Victoria tells her that there’s no reason and wants to go far away and forget about everything--assuming Florencia doesn’t have her put behind bars. Constanza doesn’t think Florencia will have her put in prison and says that she knows Victoria is a good person and she took Carolina because she was so upset over her own baby’s death. She tells her that her behavior was understandable and understands that she didn’t take Carolina because she wanted revenge. Victoria tells her that she’s mistaken because she did take Carolina because she wanted revenge. Diego tries to make her leave before she says something stupid, but Victoria refuses to leave, saying she has to tell everything because she doesn’t want to leave any more secrets in the past.

Victoria tells Constanza that she wanted to get revenge by using the baby, but says that once she actually held the child and looked in her eyes, she realized that she could never do something like that. She tells how she felt about the baby and how she thought of her as her own. Victoria tells her that she doesn’t care if she goes to prison now and leaves with Diego. Florencia understands that Carolina can’t switch off her feelings so quickly and Carolina tells her how she’s liked her since the moment she met her. Florencia is still trying to get over everything that’s happened and Carolina asks how she wound up with Victoria and Florencia tells her that Victoria stole her.

Diego offers Victoria his complete support and she tells him that now that she’s lost Carolina, she’s left with nothing else but his love, which is impossible because he’s still married to Lucrecia. In her room, Lucrecia wonders how she’ll keep Diego from leaving her and decides that Victoria has to disappear. Flora arrives and begs her to let Diego go free if she really loves him, but Lucrecia refuses. Victoria tells Diego that divorcing his wife isn’t going to be easy. He tells her that they’ll face Lucrecia together. She tells him that she loves him and they kiss and hug. Ocampo is scared that Gladys will tell his wife that he cheated on her. Gladys walks into his office and he lies to her, not telling her that the video-taped will is going to be read tomorrow. Ocampo wonders how he’ll get out of this mess he’s in.

After much drinking, Patricio and Miguel go back to Patricio’s apartment and Miguel passes out on the couch. Patricio watches him sleeping and says that he’ll continue to control Miguel by using alcohol. Gonzalo and Macario have a drink and Macario asks for a favor--he wants Gonzalo to get rid of Patricio. Gonzalo asks if he’s afraid of Patricio, and Macario tells him that he’s not scared but Patricio could be a problem. Both still crying, Florencia tells Carolina how she ended up with Victoria and tells Carolina how much she has planned for the two of them and plans to come back to see her tomorrow. She asks her to call her “mama”, but Carolina tells her that she can’t do that yet and wants to be alone so that she can process everything that’s happened. She assures her that she’s not rejecting her, but she needs to be alone for a little while. Florencia understands and asks for a favor--a kiss from her daughter. Carolina agrees and hugs her, kisses her cheek, and says, “Good night, Mama.”

Ocampo is scared to go home to his wife when Don Chema walks in and tells him that if he were him, he’d tell his wife the truth. Ocampo is shocked and asks how he knows and Chema tells him that he just knows some things, even though he doesn’t seek to know them. He tells Ocampo that his wife will be angry but will forgive him and warns him that it’s best if she hears it from him and not Gladys. Florencia tells Constanza how happy she is and Constanza asks if she’s going to inform the police on Victoria, and Florencia tells her that she won’t. She’s decided to leave Victoria alone with her conscious. Constanza is happy that she’s decided not to press charges, saying that Carolina wouldn’t have wanted her to. Florencia tells her that she’s right and knows how much Carolina still loves Victoria. She says that Victoria must have been a good mother to Carolina and never spoke bad about her (Florencia) to Carolina.

Don Chema tells Ocampo that Don G knew that the will would be stolen and wants the reading of his will to go a certain way. Chema says that if the reading of the will doesn’t go as Don G planned, he’ll come back from the dead. At the police department the next day, the detective is telling his assistant how he needs to know whether or not Victoria Salinas had anything to do with the death of Diego’s brother. Victoria meets with the detective alone, telling him that Diego told her that he wanted to speak with her. Diego goes to Lucrecia’s room and asks her if they‘re going to have a quick and easy divorce or if she‘s going to make him make the law grant him a divorce . She’s still in bed and tells him that she doesn’t want to talk about it and tells him to leave, saying that it’s useless to talk to her about a divorce because she’ll never leave him. He tells her that last night Florencia found out that Carolina is her daughter and Lucrecia now has nothing to blackmail him with. She looks shocked as he tells her that their marriage is over.
