With Lucrecia pointing a gun at Diego, he yells at her to go ahead and kill him. Lucrecia responds by saying that she cant kill him, she loves him too much to do it. He tells her that he hates her, he detests her and abhors her and screams at her to kill him. He wants to be free of having her as a wife. It has been Hell for him, he can only love Victoria and will always hate Lucrecia. German quietly tells Amalia to run and get Florencia and Constanza there in a hurry. Lucrecia says that she just cant kill Diego, she just cant do it. He then says that if she does not have the courage to kill him, then to please divorce him.
Alejandro and Carolina arrive at Alejandro's business office. She tells him that she is feeling overwhelmed. She has no idea how to run a company, she feels confused and just does not want to do it. He assures her that everything will be fine. Still, he cant stop thinking that he is not Gonzalo's son. She tells him to think of something else until after things have calmed down. She reminds him that he needs to be careful, Don G had warned him that there would be people out to kill Alejandro. He tells her that he does not believe it, because they would have no reason for it. He suddenly realizes that Carolina is the one who is now in danger, she is the one who has inherited the Montero fortune. Carolina does not believe anything will happen to her, especially after she tells everyone that she will split up the money evenly between Gonzalo, Florencia, Constanza and Lucrecia, so there should not be a problem. Alejandro reminds her that they have to stick to Don G's wishes to keep the estate and to pass it on to their child, when they had one. Don Chema was to make sure Don G's instructions were carefully followed. Alejandro also realizes that he needs to speak to Gonzalo, he does not believe that their relationship should change in light of what they have found out. Alejandro says that he will love Gonzalo forever.
At Patricio's apartment, Patricio and Miguel discuss the injustice of the will. Patricio says that it is time for them to stop feeling sorry for themselves and that it was time to act. All bets were off. Patricio tells Miguel that the only way to get all of the money was to kill Alejandro and now Carolina as well. If they were both out of the way, it would give Miguel a legal right as a Montero to get a part of the inheritance. Miguel considers this. He also wonders if Macario would be able to figure out that they would be the ones behind a murder of Carolina, especially since Macario was now on Gonzalo's side. Patricio says that it would be possibe for Macario to figure things out, but not to worry because he would not be alive for long, he was planning on getting Macario out of the way as well. Patricio also thinks that kidnapping Carolina would be an option for them. But then Patricio begins to wonder about yet another option....he could have Alejandro killed, then have Carolina fall in love with him and marry her. If he could pull that off, he could keep the money for himself and not have to share it with anybody. If that were the case, he tells Miguel that he would not need him for anything.
Constanza and Florencia discuss the surprising revelations about the kind of person that Gladys turned out to be. Florencia mentions that the person most surprised by it all was most likely Gonzalo. She says that it is probably the first time she has felt sorry for him. They wonder how Gonzalo will deal with Gladys. Florencia sighs and says that no matter what, at least Alejandro and Carolina were now free to get married. Constanza wonders why Florencia does not sound happier about that. Florencia explains that she is worried now that Carolina has the inheritance, the crazy Montero family members would try to hurt Carolina. Florencia says that if anything were to happen to her daughter, she would just die.
At Don Chema's cabin, Macario busts in to talk to Don Chema. He wants to know why he was not told that there was a second set of tapes containing Don G's will. Don Chema tells him that he did not have any obligation to tell Macario or anyone else about them. Macario reminds him that if it were not for him, Don Chema would have had nowhere to go after Don G had kicked him off the property. Macario had been the one who helped Don Chema live at the ranch without Don G’s knowledge. Don Chema tells him that it was only because of destiny that he was still living on the Montero property and that he knew that one day that very moment would arrive when he had to be there. Macario tells him to stop telling tales, he feels that Don Chema only wanted to have the power to control all of the Montero fortune and now he could enjoy it that he had been named executor of the will. Don Chema tells Macario to leave the ranch because he would wind up dead, he still had time to save himself. Macario refuses. He is waiting for Gonzalo to pay him a lot of money and he also refuses to give up his woman, Amalia. He would rather die than to leave with nothing, no matter what happens.
Diego tells Lucrecia that he is slowly dying, day by day, just by being at her side. He insists that he is not the man for her, to please set him free. Lucrecia tells him that he is what she most loves and would never let him go. But she would rather see him dead than in Victoria's arms. Agitated, Diego tells her to go ahead and kill him, he wants the nightmare to end. She angrily wants to know if that is what he really wants, if he loves Victoria that much. Claudio and German look at each other and, at once, German lunges for Lucrecia and grabs her and Claudio reaches for the gun and takes it away. German yells at Diego to leave the room and Claudio drags him away. German tells Lucrecia to calm down. She looks at him and wants to know how she can get Diego to love her, she needs for him to love her. Lucrecia cries on German's shoulder and asks him to help her.
Constanza says that they must find a way to protect Carolina, she has no idea what could happen to her. Amalia rushes in to tell them that they must hurry to get to Diego's ranch because Lucrecia has shot Victoria and now Diego is looking to get shot as well.
Diego thanks Claudio for having stepped in and saving him from making a big mistake. Claudio tells him that he understands how Diego was under much pressure. Still, Diego says that it is no excuse for having lost control of his emotions like that. He says that it is urgent for him to go and see how Victoria is doing. Claudio tells Diego to relax and drive carefully, he got news from Maria that Victoria was doing fine. Constanza and Florencia arrive at Diego's house and want to know what happened. They are told that Lucrecia shot Victoria, but that Victoria was alive. There is a knock on the front door and Claudio goes to open it. It is two policemen who are checking on a reported gunshot that had been heard at Diego's ranch. They also know that a woman is at the hospital with an injury. Florencia interrupts Diego from saying anything and tells the policemen that Diego had been talking to Lucrecia and Victoria at the same time that he had been cleaning a gun and it accidentally went off. She assures them that everybody, including Victoria, would tell them the same thing. One of the policemen states that he will go to talk to Victoria to get her side of the story to make sure it had all been an accident. He also warns them that they could get into serious trouble with the law if they were covering up a criminal act. Once the police leave, Diego wonders why Florencia lied to them. They would only discover the truth once they had spoken to Victoria. Florencia explains that she does not want Lucrecia to go to jail, Lucrecia needs to go to a psychiatric clinic instead. Florencia plans on talking to Victoria before the policemen could get to her. Victoria owed her a favor anyways, because Florencia had not pressed charges against her.
Renato, still with Gladys at the Montero ranch, warns her that she better not tell anyone that he had known all along that Alejandro is his son. She was now totally dependent on him because she would be kicked off the property. Gladys tells him that it wont be easy to break the bond between Alejandro and Gonzalo. She refuses to lie for Renato. Renato tells her that he will know how to win over Alejandro and get him on his side. Gladys laughs in Renato's face and tells him that he would be forced to help her because she knows too many of his secrets and his help would mean her silence. Renato gets deadly serious and asks her if she is blackmailing him. Gladys tells him that of course she is blackmailing him. She could begin by going to the police and tell them about the false paperwork he used to get all of Victoria's property. Renato grabs Gladys by the neck and tells her that nobody, especially not her, blackmails him. Gladys breaks loose. Renato reminds her that she no longer has anything, same as Victoria. But that Gladys does not even have her own "Diego Ibarra" to defend her. She was completely alone and at his mercy. Gladys tells him that she is not afraid of him, she was sick of him. Gonzalo suddenly shows up and sees Renato. He curses him. Renato, playing dumb, asks what he is talking about. Gonzalo tells him that he knows perfectly well that Alejandro is his son. Looking shocked, Renato asks Gonzalo if he has gone crazy. Gladys tells Gonzalo that she had never told Renato the truth about him being Alejandro's father. Gonzalo tells her that he does not believe a word she says. Renato assures Gonzalo that he never connected the "small weakness" that he and Gladys had in the past, with the birth of Alejandro. A furious Gonzalo calls Renato a liar and begins to beat Gladys. Macario, Santos and Rocio run in to separate them. Gonzalo curses Gladys and calls her names, he also tells her that if he ever gets his hands on her again, she would not live to tell about it. He would get back at everyone who has harmed him as well. After taking care of Gladys, he would go after Victoria. He screams at Gladys that if she does not want him to kill her, she better leave the ranch. Once Gonzalo leaves the room, Renato laughs at Gladys and tells her that now she is totally dependent on him.
Florencia shows up at the hospital to talk to Victoria. She tells her that she has come to ask for a favor in return for her own favor she had done for Victoria. Florencia tells Victoria exactly what she wants her to tell the police. Florencia is aware that Lucrecia is a danger to other people but she still does not want her to go to jail. She wants her to get psychiatric help. Victoria does not look at all pleased about all of this. But she tells Florencia that she will not say anything about Lucrecia’s attempt to murder her. Florencia tells Victoria that now they are even, forgiveness for forgiveness. Florencia thanks Victoria and leaves. Diego arrives and Victoria tells him that she accepted to give the police Florencia's version of the events because she feels that she owes it to her. Diego tells Victoria that he regrets how things have turned out, but that soon he would be free and wants Victoria to marry him. He does want to be sure that Lucrecia gets checked into a psychiatric clinic just so make sure that Victoria will be safe. But he wonders what he will do about Gonzalo.
At Diego's house, Lucrecia tells Constanza that she does not care if she goes to jail if she has first killed Victoria. Constanza wonders what is going on with her family, were they all going crazy?
Gonzalo watches Gladys leave. He tells Macario that he now needs to begin the divorce procedures. He asks Macario if he is still on his side. Gonzalo still owes him the money he promised him. The original will that they got a hold of was now worthless. Gonzalo tells Macario that there were still ways he could fight for the inheritance, especially if Carolina were to disappear.
Alejandro and Carolina return to the Montero ranch. Alejandro wants to speak with Gonzalo and Carolina wants to speak with Florencia. Alejandro goes to look for Gonzalo. Carolina talks to Rocio, who had not yet heard that Carolina would be getting the Montero fortune. Rocio is very happy to hear the news and says that Carolina has a soap opera life. She expresses that it would be so very nice to have Carolina as the owner of the Montero ranch. But Carolina tells her that she will not be keeping it. Don G only did it to get revenge on his family. Carolina did not think it was a fair thing, especially since she now had a chance to be happy with Alejandro. They both wanted to start at "zero" and both wanted to work. She was not comfortable knowing that she would have an inheritance that had destroyed an entire family because of their ambition. Amalia runs up to Carolina and delivers the news that Victoria is at the hospital because Lucrecia had shot her.
Renato arrives at his apartment where he triumphantly announces to Martina, Christa and Isabela that Gladys will be staying there for some time. He tells her of the plans he has for her. She will work for him as one of his "girls" once he begins his business in Miami. He is sure that she will be to the liking for some of his clients. Gladys says that she would never lower herself to being one of those tramps. Christa tells her not to insult them, they were not prostitutes, they were much more high-class than that. Renato agrees, telling Gladys that they only worked for clients who were rich. He tells Gladys that she could actually do well, if she obeyed him. Gladys tells Renato that she could never do that, because she loved her husband. Renato gives her a choice, she could either work for him or wind up in the street.
Diego gives Victoria the good news that she would be able to leave the hospital the next morning and go home. Victoria wonders what home he is referring to. She tells him that at his place, Lucrecia would be waiting for her with a gun and that she no longer had a home of her own, because Renato took that away from her. Diego assures her that Lucrecia would not be at his house when Victoria arrived the next morning and tells her not to worry about Renato, because Renato would be returning everything he had stolen from her. Alarmed, Victoria asks Diego if he had gone to see Renato. He tells her that he did, but has yet to do anything definitive against him. She says to just leave things as they are with him because they dont need any more problems. She tells him to please not intervene, she has already spoken to the police detective and he was going to help her. He calms her down. He tells her that he has to go home now and with the help of Florencia, he was going to get Lucrecia checked into a psychiatric clinic. The sooner the better. Victoria tells Diego to be really careful because Lucrecia was so out of her mind that she was capable of killing him.
Renato instructs Martina that she is to return to the Montero ranch because he was going to find a way to get close with Alejandro. He then tells Christa to join him in the bedroom. Martina is not too happy to be returning to the Montero ranch. Isabela tells her that she has to do whatever Renato tells her to do. Martina, bothered by this, grabs her purse and leaves. Once left alone, Isabela strokes her stomach and says that she would not let anyone kill her baby. She knows exactly who was going to help them escape.
Carolina arrives at the hospital to see Victoria. She hesitantly asks Victoria is she is okay. Victoria sadly asks her if she honestly cares about what happens to her. Carolina responds tearfully "Yes, mom. I cant help it." Victoria reaches out to Carolina, who takes her hand. Victoria asks Carolina to forgive her. Carolina smiles and says "Dont worry mom. I have already forgiven you. I cant stop loving you." They hug each other. There is a knock on the door. Victoria and Carolina look towards the door, and much to their surprise, Isabela walks in. Victoria and Carolina want to know what she is doing there. Isabela says that she is there to humbly ask for Victoria's help. She had asked Maria to tell her where she could find Victoria. She was glad to have found that Carolina was there as well. Isabela was ready to tell them the truth in exchange for helping her get away from Renato. She explains that Renato is determined to have Isabela abort her child. Victoria says that the baby is not to blame for anything and if there was anything she could do to help, she would do it happily. Victoria asks what Isabela was there to tell them. Isabela says that she was there to confess the truth, so that Carolina and Alejandro could be completely happy together. With tears streaming down her face, Isabela announces that her baby was not Alejandro's. The baby was Patricio's.
