Response to The Hives of Xoth marvelous scientists!
The thing that most struck me about your game was your early ship production. I thought I had spent quite a bit of my early efforts in building up harassing forces and then up to a full armada for the final confrontation with the Icthys, yet you managed to beat me to that particular punch by about 20 turns while still producing what seemed like a good amount of colony ships. I suppose that there were at least a couple main factors involved here, one being my early mineral shortages and other suboptimal moves in my game, and another being my early task force designs lacked long range punch and could have been better. Also, you didn't build any additional scouts at all, just went straight with defensive warships right from the beginning, while I expected a bit more of a branching exploration path.
I never thought of moving my imperial seat rather than waiting for mob centers, did that interfere at all with production at your home planet? Of course, by the time I was ready to go after the Evon, I already had a mob center built in Viverine anyway, so in my case it probably would not have helped much.
You didn't seem overly concerned about the possibility of a senate win when you went for the X victory path, were you just taking a (small) gamble that none of them would develop quickly enough or did you have a plan in mind for that eventuality? Perhaps you were just confident that keeping an eye on the Victory screen would give you enough advance notice of a possible Senate win to make your way to whatever empire was looking threatening and squish them?
