I've given up on the map I had posted and had started a new maso game with the warmongers, and although that map didn't look easier or harder than the other one, I'm now cruising to a comfortable victory. Maybe I have finally learned something and just needed a new map, or something else was at work that I don't yet understand, but anyway - I will return to my posted game again, until I beat it - but won't submit it, in case it collides with your submission. I'm looking forward to the report of your game! Take your time, though.
I'm just trying to figure out how to edit my player name and serial number INTO the save file
That should hopefully be no problem. Take a hex editor (I used "Hex Editor V2.0" by HHD Software, it's freeware - do a Google search to find it) and open the file "game.galaxy" in the save folder. I have replaced my serial number with Xs, but left the "-"s there - so just search for "XXX" and you'll find the position where the number has been, with the structure still intact.
I don't think you have to edit your name into the save; I guess you will be identified by the serial number alone. At least in that file, neither "Kylearan" nor "Andre Wichmann" can be found.
I'm not sure if other files have to be edited (I didn't), but I doubt it.
If there ever will be an interest in a tournament or SG, I'll write a tool for erasing/restoring personal data.
