With the help you provided, Ozy, I -did- get MOO running under WinME. There's no music. (You'd think a Soundblaster Live could emulate an old SB card, but no, some of the other products out there now seem to do a better job of that!) Otherwise it is working splendidly. This doesn't affect my intentions to complete setting up the P166, but it allowed me to proceed with work on my Moo Page without having to endure delays. I was able to play a game, take screens, and design a walkthrough for new players. I'm working on that now.
I'm glad that Isit signed on with us through GalCiv. Not only is he a welcome addition for that game, but being an old MOO and Xcom player, he really WILL fit in around here. Every potential addition to any Moo activity will increase the likelihood of reaching critical mass and rendering the effort sustainable.
I now realize why MOO looks so blocky. It is, in fact, rendered at 320 x 200. They must have designed it for that resolution, either intending to target the folks who had 16 color 320x200 (16-color CGA, in effect, using an RGB monitor, since EGA was 640 res) and then doubling the size as monitor quality marched forward during the design process, OR perhaps they simply did it to save space, since back then, games had to fit onto floppy disks, and as it was, MOO took four disks.
All of my screenshots are rendering at 320x200 and I am doubling the size to get them to display normally. So in effect, these are not actually VGA graphics we're dealing with, but truly old graphics, even more primitive than what is found in the original Civilization, which was a year or two older than MOO. Still, I found it only took me about fifteen minutes to get over the shock of the graphical blockiness. By the time the game started to get rolling, I wasn't even noticing the graphics any more. I was too busy playing. Maybe the low graphical level will be a deal breaker for some, but let's hope not. For the moment, at least, I'm taking it as a good sign that I stopped caring very shortly after starting a new game.
I'm not sure how long it will take me to compile my screens, upload them, and write the tutorial. I figure I should be done by the end of the weekend if not sooner, but don't hold me to that.
