What I'm looking for is a complete set of instructions for installing the game and tweaking the environment to get the game to run, for each possible platform. These would include each iteration of Windows, plus Mac, plus DOS, plus Linux if that's possible. Ideally, an interested player who has never tried the game before should be able to follow these instructions and get up and running with little or no need to ask additional questions or hunt down more information. Our pool of potential players is small and we cannot afford to lose even one to frustrations with getting started.
Where an OS can run the game without needing utilities, I prefer to set up instructions that way. For OS'es that need help from utilities to run the game, or to run it well, then the sources of these utilities would have to be included, along with full instructions for using the utilities properly.
I can come up with any or all of this on my own, but these may be areas where others could contribute, allowing me to focus more on aspects that will help raise interest and participation, like reports, strategy, and gameplay discussion. The more help I get with quality instructions to get the game running, the sooner we can launch activities.
