Response to I notice in Chads Babble, he is making fun of the very people that elected him! |
| He does have a point. As a genealogy person, I've had the same questions put to me, what do I get? Not agreeing with Chad, cause he is looking at votes and I am looking at historical and present day Indians that know they are Indian and they know they are Cherokee. I was born in 1947 and knew I was Cherokee when a small person, I didn't have to research to know it, but I did have to research to claim it! (blue card)
I've told this story before, but needs re-told. My great aunt was born in 1908, she was born 11/16 Cherokee, she made her living without the CNO or benifits. A few yrs before she passed, she did need help and went to Claremore for her cancer treatment and they wouldn't see her without a blue card. She called me from Tulsa here in CA and asked me how do I get a blue card? I called a place in Tulsa and they sent someone to visit with her and get all the paper work in order for her to apply, she did get her blue card. She asked me? Why do I got to prove I am Cherokee? I have been Cherokee all my life and never asked for any help until I really needed it. This was not that long ago, about 12 yrs or so. Now, she was entitled to Cherokee benifits, huh?
See, the same story... she was always Cherokee, but she also had to research to prove it! That is the different point, some of us know who we are and entitled and some of us "think" we could be... (followed by what do we get?)
