Response to They murdered our mother... |
| While this may be long term good news, and I think it is probably correct, in the short term it's going to suck up CN and UKB resources as the fight moves to the courts.
It will suck up tribal resources for years, when the only issue is which piggies get to the trough.
It will not be decided in my lifetime, unless both organizations suddenly discover a public-spiritedness that has not been evident for the past few years and neither has passed on any opportunity to piss on the other's shoes.
It would be better for Cherokees living today if either just got a clean win right now. It would probably be better for Cherokee culture if that winner was the UKB. But that is not going to happen.
What we got here is a legal black hole--that is, a singularity with a gravitational force so strong that not even light can escape. The only solution that honors traditional Cherokee values is merger.
And you know what, merger talks would have a minimal cost to both organizations. They own places where it could happen, so no rent. Both organizations have people who would serve as delegates for free or for cheap. Of course, only older people can do that because it would take so long that jobs and families would make it hard for younger people. Of course there are plenty of older people who know Cherokee history and values....but can anybody imagine an attack of common sense on that scale?
