Opponents of high taxes and increased government spending braved the weather Saturday to express their support for the U.S. Constitution at a Fourth of July rally.
Most of the Revolution to Take Back the Constitution Tea Party! consisted of concerned citizens publicly voicing their frustrations in five-minute intervals, while others huddled under trees and umbrellas to listen at Haikey Creek Park.
Byron Holmes, 50, of Locus Grove attended the rally because he said he feels his individual rights are disintegrating.
It hurts me to the core, he said.
Holmes, who didnt speak during the open forum, said the Fourth of July is about celebrating the countrys independence from Great Britain, but that in many ways the U.S. government has become overbearing and raises taxes just like Great Britain used to do.
Im tired of paying for other peoples stuff, Holmes said.
He also said the government devalues property and gives it to developers.
Kerry Joseph of Inola said the federal government is out of control.
Joseph said she also doesnt agree with illegal immigrants migrating to the U.S. and being allowed to collect welfare.
