Ila Jr 2009

November 13 2008, 9:18 AM

the word is, mike mitchell purchased the lightning and they will play in the ILA jr.b. interesting, president of ILA having ownership of a team is his own league. i guess we know already, who will be going to the FOUNDERS CUP. also at the CLA AGM this weekend, will try and convince them to let the lightning still be affiliated with the jr.A indians. better take alot of knee pads mike, you'll need it!!!

doesnt make sense having them use lightning as an affiliate
whereas last year they sent jr a players down to help lightning
out and what did that do? almost cost the indians the playoff
series against burlington. and why would he buy the lightning to
play in the ila when there is already the eagles

What a joke comment, do you think Orangeville was worried about their season by sending Adam Jones to Owen Sound Jr.B for the playoffs and back up to Junior A a couple a years ago. That's why their so succesful year in, and year out, they think for the future not for today.

my bad i meant they sent players to cornwall instead of lightning making them unaffiliated players and therefore illegal to use in the playoffs. they were more worried about helping cornwall make playoffs than helping lightning get a better seed in the playoffs. messed up where they have a affiliated team but didnt help them out by sending players down. so glad don moore resigned he just wanted to help other teams besides lightning

point lost

November 13 2008, 1:18 PM

what you missed in this point is that both of the players that were sent to the Celtics (to clear some A cards for possible last minute acquisitions)could not go anywhere else ...their JR B rights belonged to Cornwall AND you will be very lucky indeed if you find another GM even 1/2 as committed to HIS team as Don Moore. He might make an honest mistake somewhere but not for want of trying!

The bottom line is Orangeville always looks in the best interest of the player development 1st, which is why they are always contenders.

how can you say blake kennys rights belonged to cornwall, and if they had to return to cornwall then don moore would have known that they were unaffiliated players.

Kenny's right did belong to Cornwall when Gloucester traded his "B" rights
to Cornwall the year prior. Don messed up, just a honest little costly mistake, around the $ 2,000 mark.

Re: Ila Jr 2009

Again if you go by that statement interestingly enough, in 2007, the Orangeville Northmen JR.A's let Adam Jones go back to Owen Sound for the playoffs even though he was the 3rd top goal scorer on the A Team with 35 points and having played only 12 games. That same year, he was the OLA Jr. B top Scorer with Owen Sound with 107 points with 20 games played. The first game of the playoffs when the Indians faced the Norhtmen, Jones was no where to be found, guess where he was playing? A playoff game for Owen Sound against the Orangeville Jr.B's, whom they want on to defeat! The next night when the B's weren't playing, Adam Jones was back lighting it up for the Northmen. Maybe the Far East can learn a little something from that, and think what is best for lacrosse in general, not just for your program, but everyone elses also. Food for thought.

Wouldnt have that made him an unaffiliated player?

again interesting so

November 13 2008, 5:24 PM

what is the rule for using 'unaffiliated' players in the playoffs? Kenny's JR B rights were with Cornwall but he had been picked in the Titan's dispersal draft by Akwesasne so what was his status in that case ... not a drafted player with an unaffiliated team but rather a dispersal drafted player with an unaffiliated team? Jones, I believe was a drafted player with an unaffiliated team so were his rights different? I would love to have a 'by the constitution' explanation of the two cases and how they were different and more importantly how the respective players' rights were treated. It seems one player had rights and the other didn't ... very strange in my opinion!

Orangeville aquired Adam Jones's rights in a trade with Mississuaga Jr.A's who drafted him 2nd overall in the 2006 draft. Once drafted you can play in both league playoffs.
His B rights always stayed with Owen Sound. But the whole point being, the Jr.A Northmen try and work for what's best for lacrosse, not just their own program. If they wanted to be dirty, they could have signed him on the spot, and let Owen Sound suffer in the playoffs and help their own Jr.B team win, but they didn't, knowing that by keeping a healthy relationship with ohter oraganizations it will pay dividends in the future. The Minto Cup this year comes to mind.

Re: Ila Jr 2009

Everything starts at the top, the day the Jr.A Indians learn how to affiliate players properly, by letting the players develop properly is the day everyone one in the East will get stronger including a Minto for the Indians. If you don't have a good working relationship, chaos sets in, and nobody benefits, especially the kids, and that's what the focus should be about. Folding teams, and amalgamating teams is an easy way out, but not the answer. Junior B teams in the East should not be playing the same nights the local Junior A team is playing and so on.

Adam Jones was drafted in a "Midget" Draft, Blake Kenny was drafted in a "Dispersal" Draft, 2 totally seperate things.

maybe but how

November 14 2008, 12:37 PM

I will not sipute that but what is the difference really! Both kids have rights to play ... one belonged to a B club and was sent from one A club to another by a 'draft' and the other was drafted ... no dispute here but how is a 'dispersal draft' different especially considering the 'rights' of the kids to PLAY?

Re: maybe but how

I agree with your views but rules are rules. The difference between an Amateur draft and Dispersal draft is a amateur draft consist of 16 year olds only and a dispersal draft can have kids up to 21. Also, possibly Adam Jones never signed an A card, take Thor Grant from Cornwall for example, he was drafted by the Indians and could have been used any time during the seaon and playoffs with the Indians even though he was a B carded, he was drafted by the Indians. Sounds complicating I know, but I think they do this because in Toronto will all those B Teams local and close, it would be a nightmare.

again interesting but

November 14 2008, 12:56 PM

it really seems that players caught up in a 'dispersal draft' have no rights which is left, I mean wrong! Players from a Club that disbands 'out of season' should never be subject to a dispersal draft and I think that the consitution supports that view (in season a different story but out of season ... free agents all by residence).

Re: again interesting but

Actually, any time you sign an A card with a club, you really want to make sure you want to be part of that club for your entire carreer. Unless your a 4th liner, you can't just simply walk and leave because of a residency rule like Junior "B". Thankfully that rule applies in A, because with some of the buying power of some of the "A" Teams have, it would turn into a 2 team league very quickly. I'm not going to mention any names (lol).

Re: maybe but how

November 14 2008, 1:30 PM

Rights for kids to play, will never apply at Jr.A, it's an old boys club, take Jay Card for example and what about "TEAMS", not mentioning any names because the thread will hit the 100 mark, that buy players.
