NFS Porsche 2000 gets frozen

Hi!
I need help. Whenever I enter the game menu my NFS Porche 2000 gets frozen and all I can do is to reset my computer. It never hangs in the game itself (when driving the car) just in the menu. Any ideas?
Athlon XP 1700, NVIDIA GeForce MX440, DirectX 9
