I had same problem as you got. The way i made it work, was by re-installing the directX.7 and the drivers for my Voodoo2 (12mb). All the latest drivers are included on the nfs5-cd, all you have to do is unzip them and install!
Try install the stuff again, and it will work fine! Good luck /NFS crew
