Looks like the engine isnt shot after all!!! yippeeee!!! but I still have to figure out why it gets warm, could be the thermostat but not sure yet! The first problem what apparently the motor was half filled with dirt! I had run water through it but not with the engine running and I had forgotten that when it boiled over, looked in my new aluminum radiator and it was full of rust, dirt and gunk!ick! then I cleaned it back out, flushing the system for 20 minutes with the engine running this time and TONS more came out, even a couple of chunks, but I am sure more is in there. then I started looking into my power problem, all the cylinders had good compression so no major problems there. started thinking about the backfire, then it hit me, timing, no marks on the balancer or pully, how did I set that then? Started adjusting distributor til it was at highest rpm and running smooth, took it out on the road and VROOM, HUGE POWER! now I might just get an electric fan, chevy striaght 6 engine sits a little crooked so I cant get the fan very close, and I dont know if I have the skill to make a good shroud for it! I think I will atleast take him out for a spin on Drive Your Studebaker Day just for the fun of it!
