In the background is our '49 Fire Truck from South Dakota, last used by the Huron, SD fire dept. We found it with just over 1400 miles on it. It has about 4300 on it now. In the foreground is our new addition, a '52 from Missouri with less than 27k. It was a grain body.
The metal was great on both, the fire truck had a small hole the size of a quarter in one cab corner. The farm truck was absolutley perfect, except there was 3 inches of asphalt and mud in the fender wells that took many hours of careful chiseling to remove. Both are finished with Imron, used on airplanes and commercial fleets.
They are both mechanically original, with the addition of an electric OD unit. They can cruise at 70 mph and get 11 mpg, though not at the same time! At almost 10,000 lbs it rides great.,
I have to say how proud I am of my wife, she handles her truck like a pro. It's funny how many jaws drop when the truck rumbles in and this little italian girl hops out and starts chopping wood!
BTW, If we get to do Nationals next year, people wearing bib overalls will get a nice discount!
