I found a nicer bed for my M5. I need to go get it, take the old one off, and put the new one on. I have 4 questions:
1. A trip under my truck seems to indicate that the bed is held on only at the four corners. Up front there are big rectangular washers held in by 1/2 inch bolts that clamp down the front of the bed. At the back are a couple more bolts, one in each corner. I've Kroiled them up good but they do look a little rough. Are these the only places the bed is secured to the frame?
2. I need to build a 2x4 frame to support the new bed in the back of my F-150. I'm thinking that I will just support the M5 bed on the same 4 corners then ratchet the frame to my bed loops so it stays in the back for the trip home. Any tips on making sure I secure the bed without damaging it?
3. What if this is actually a M15 bed? I notice the part numbers are different and the M15 bed requires 2 bolts in each rear corner rather than the 1 used by the M5. Can I still bolt it to the M5 frame or won't it fit? How can I tell the difference between an M5 and an M15 bed?
4. When bolting the new bed on, I was planning on using grade 8 fasteners. The parts book doesn't have anything to say on bolt quality. Is this the correct choice?
