Not that long ago, I was installing new rear rotors and pads on my daughter's Saab 9000. Like you, I've done many, many Saabs.
The loaded calipers just would not go back over the rotors. I pried, pushed, clamped and they just wouldn't go back on.
So frustrated I was about to cry, I decided upon the obvious. The pads were just too thick. New pads from NAPA and on like cake. Who the fork makes pads too thick? Prolly the Chinese.
Random thoughts. Measure the front and rear drums to confirm the IDs are the same. Are the shoes and wheel cylinders the same front and rear? Will the rear shoes work on the front?
