Just bought the 58 about a month ago & just took the hubcaps off for the first time. The guy I bought it from said he had rung off some of the lug nuts on the drivers side before realizing they were clockwise off. Found three had been replaced with new "counter clockwise" off lugs, but I know that is correctable.
Then on to the driver side rear wheel where I find that the male threaded (hub?) that comes through the brake drum has evidently been cut/ hacksawed off (guessing he buggered the threads up) and the locking nut that the cotter pin is supposed to fit through doesn't even have enough remaining hub? To put the washer behind it or much less put a cotter pin through it.
I'm not a mechanic so need some experienced studebaker guys to tell me what all I am going to need to change out to make this right. I'm hoping this hub is not a single piece through the axle!?!?
I have access to buying a 55 parts truck, so wondering if what I need would interchange with a 55 E series half ton.
Appreciate any help / advice.
**sorry for being so long winded**
