I lived 15 years in Florida and bought a backup generator after the second hurricane.
Being rural, on well and septic, you need water the most.
I had a swimming pool to scoop buckets of water for the toilet.
Now, no pool in SE Georgia, so a generator for the well pump, refrigerator, freezer, and some lights is all important.
Sunday night we had a storm squall line go through and it tore half the roof off my workshop.
Knocked hundreds of trees down and wires were down in many areas.
Went on generator power for most of the night.
My power company was awesome, as they had the lines back up and power restored before dawn.
I was able to, with generator power providing lights, to tarp and move sensitive stuff in the shop to protect it from water damage.
Pretty luck, all in all.....
