One of the most overlooked thing when it comes to this problem, is the ignition switch. Hardly
anybody checks it. The material that separates the tabs on the back side of the switch develops a crack between the poles, and cause's the engine to diesel upon shut off. Easy check, with the engine running pull the feed wire off of the coil. If the engine stops without dieseling, the switch is more than likely your problem.
