grease. The concept is that the grease would burn and turn to carbon and seal the gaps. Ultimately, the carbon build up in the cylinder will provide some sealing properties but takes time for it build up. Always best to go with something that work on the get-go. Others say that any metallic paint will do but not all have metal flakes in them these days... The cooper stuff has copper in it, copper is soft enough to be squeezed to seal and solid enough to not burn away.
