out the bottom underneath the frame. The steering box and the steering shaft are one piece unless you completely disassemble the box to take the shaft out, not exactly the correct way to do it. My tube was also cracked maybe 70% around. After taking the entire box out I unclamped the tube from the box and welded the crack. My thought is that the crack was caused by the sagging body over time. It is important when you reinstall to make sure there is no stress on the tube between the box mounting and the column tube mounting on the dash.
