I have a 180* thermostat but it will run hotter than that in hot weather. With a pressure cap, it actually changes the boiling point of water. Depending on the pressure that the cooling system is under, on some newer cars running 15 lbs of pressure, I believe that they can go well over 220*(I think 240*), before they will boil. A safe pressure cap for an older rig is usually about 7 lbs. Someone chime in here if I am wrong with my numbers.
