Bill, I read you message again, and as you can see, I changed the clip that holds the shoe to the backing plate over to a later spring type. It has been a few years since I put these together. As long as your "U" clip has tension, I would not see a problem. Maybe you could post some pictures? It might be easier to diagnose. I am a visual learner .
