... Been working on this for awhile I finally figured it out this morning. The original tail light sockets are a type Ba15D which describes the opposing symmetrical (vs off-set) pin configuration of the Studebaker (Mazda brand) original 1158 bulbs. See page 92 of the M series parts manual. Turns out the correct 12 volt upgrade tail/stop lamp is an 1176. This lamp has the same dimensional specs as the 1158 but is 12 volt.
