We need to have some form of agreement on so many things. Perhaps we could form some sort of assistance to help students fulfill their podiatric dream. It appears that while in the sheltered fold of the podiatry colleges, students feel safe and secure. The problem arises just after graduation. Perhaps with so few students, all can be trained at their respective institution for a 5th year (a mixed sx-nonsx residency year) with outside source residencies as an alternative option (ppmrs psrs). It would seem that if some surgical training was guaranteed as a part of the podiatric curriculum, it would make our schools attractive and keep our profession alive. In addition it would be nice to see a resource center developed to assist persons wanting to work in a certain location, set up practice, make a fair associate deal, etc for after residency training is done.
I was thinking that should I come back to earth in another life time 100 years from now would we still have these problems, and would podiatry even be in existance anymore? We seem to lack uniformity of leadership and it's dividing the field rather than strengthening it.
How do we fix our fields internal problems?
