Congrats!by Anon (no login)Wow! It's great that you got an advertisement from the vaunted New York school! You would have never known about podiatry. Podiatry's always been the last refuge for men and women who want to be called "doctor", but lack the necessary grades and standardized test scores to enter traditional medical school. That's how I got in. How important are grades and MCAT scores, though? If you had known about podiatry before taking the MCAT you probably could have taken it without studying or even taken the CBEST test or some other, less painful exam. Oh well. Water under the bridge. Medicine is never off limits as long as there's podiatry. That's what's great about it. Anyone can get in, get a D.E.A license and even cut into someone. It's awesome! Professional sports teams are clamboring for podiatrists from what I hear. There arent' enough podiatrists who want to do it I guess. And these teams need podiatrists. Everyone knows that. Lots of times, the podiatrist can double as the team physician and treat all kinds of diseases and injuries because podiatry students study everything. Traditional medical schools can be rude, huh? They look at an MCAT total of 11 or a GPA of 2.1 and immediately decide that this person would probably die in the first week. That's totally rude. Podiatry schools are much nicer. They'll interview anyone. Felons, foreigners who don't speak English, slovenly dressed people who spit while they talk (ok, I'm sort of kidding. I think they do have some kind of anti-felon rule). The schools are only concerned with your interest. It makes getting in a lot easier. I was a little nervous when I got accepted to podiatry school. I didn't get any interviews to DO or MD school despite my better than average MCAT score and 3.3 GPA. The best part is that I got accepted to every single podiatry school and I didn't even have to interview with all of them. That's service for you! I accepted the one that offered admission on the same day as my interview. I guess it made me nervous because I wondered why they would take me sight unseen, but, hey, I didn't care. I was going to be a doctor!!! As far as finances, as long as you can sign your name, you'll get it. And don't worry. When you add your undergrad debt to your podiatry school debt it'll only be about 200k. With the Baby Boomers and the increase in physical activity (and the sports teams, let's not forget about them!), you'll be making that average of 110k in your first year!
