Clarification re: north of the border chiropodists.by Anonymus (no login)Chiropodists are only in Ontario, Canada. Ironically UK podiatrists (DipPodM) were teaching chiropody in Ontario. They were constantly assuring the students that private practise was lucrative. After the chiropody clinic (the largest no fee foot clinic in North America where they were teaching) at Toronto General Hospital was shut down, most resigned their chiropody registration and left the chiropody profession in Ontario. If private practise was extremely lucrative why didn't they take the opportunity to experience it first hand? BTW the Ontario chiropody programme is not recognised or has been copied by any other province in Canada. An Ontario chiropodist cannot practise in the USA, UK, Australia, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Quebec. The Maritime provinces have limited/no podiatry legislation -a chiropodist may practise there depending on the provincial legislation. A DPM from the USA, or any province wishing to practise podiatry in Ontario is only able to register and practise there as a chiropodist. This is because a decade ago, the Ontario registered podiatrists "cannabilized their young" by agreeing to shut down the podiatrist registration category under The Chiropody Act of Ontario. They claim that it was done in exchange to have bone surgery (which was being done by about 10 podiatrists in the province) included in the scope of practise of a registered podiatrist under The Chiropody Act. from IP address 65.48.41.73 Goto Forum Home |
